How long to wait for private lapascopy

After my consultation I decided to go priviate as I didn’t want to wait 3 months on the NHS as my anxiety is so bad.

I’m having it done at spire.

They said they are currently writing the letter up for me for the lap.

How long did you wait for your priviate lap?

Hey Kate,

I hope yours is this quick too🤞🏼.xxx

I had the appointment on Monday and then decided Tuesday I was going private and they let the specialist know and said my letter was getting done there and then..

Hoping it’s as quick as possible

I'm waiting 8 weeks x

8 weeks and paying?!

cmbxm profile image
cmbxm in reply toKate345

8 weeks and private but the NHS are paying because waiting time in my area are 25 weeks plus! So if I'm NHS//Private and waiting 8 weeks you're probably going to be waiting a lot less! My original estimated waiting time was 6 weeks so I'm not at all phased! 8 weeks is so much better than 25 plus weeks! x

Ah that makes sense then why it would be longer!

I rang up and asked how long it would be for a a scan priviate before and they were like come in this afternoon if you like lol

Even as an NHS patient using private the dates and times are fantastic! If they hadn't have offered me private I would've paid for it anyway! The dates and times and treatment options compared to the NHS really are exceptional!! Good luck Hun and hope you get your surgery date soon! X

Hi,

Quick question, how do you get the NHS to pay for a private op? My laparoscopy isn't until June 2018 and I don't think I can wait that long. Thanks

cmbxm profile image
cmbxm in reply tokellskg76

I didn't ask for them to do it I'm afraid it was a decision made for me as the waiting times in my local area were so long! Might be worth asking your GP if they could refer you to go privately? You might struggle to convince them if you already have a laparoscopy booked though X

Thanks for replying. I have a provisional date for the 4th June 2018, 8months is too long. I'll definitely go back to the doctors, no harm in trying x

Emphasise the fact that the 4th June 2018 is a provisional date and your worried it could be pushed back further, hope you get some help hun x

You do get a choice of dates though which was brilliant in my case because I've been able to plan around my surgery well in advanced! x

2,400 for the lap on its own another price of 2,800 I think for lap and removal of endo chats etc.. 7 grand for a histectomy lol

I was seen and operated on in two weeks, would have been a week but I took a later date to sort out work

I went with spire through the NHS and it was about a 4 week wait after my appointment where he told me he was going to operate. Unfortunately for me he rang in sick so I had to wait another 4 weeks before I had it done x

How long is the waiting list for a lap on the NHS?

I paid to see a specialist at spires 3 months ago and then I have my follow up appointment this Friday on the NHS to see the same specialist.

I really can’t wait much longer, so was wondering the different time scale for a laparoscopy between NHS and spires x

Kate345 profile image
Kate345 in reply toSummer_3

She told me it would be a 2-3 month wait for a lap on the nhs, I said it was too long so I’m paying to be a completely priviate patient

Kate345 profile image
Kate345 in reply toSummer_3

As I’m paying so much I’d think it would be asap I keep ringing every day for an update - it might be annoying but I just need to know what’s happening

Summer_3 profile image
Summer_3 in reply toKate345

How much has it cost if you don’t mind me asking? I know how you feel as I won’t be able to wait 2-3 months, I have been waiting round and I can’t do it for any longer. It’s getting difficult to cope with the pain day in day out :(

Fingers crossed you get one in the next week! X

2,300 for basic then 2,800 if anything needs to be removed

Waiting list on NHS differs by area. I was told for me it would be 12+ months. Privately it was 6 weeks between specialist saying I needed op and having it done - he was disappointed he couldn’t get me in sooner but Spire didn’t have a bed xx

I was put on the NHS list on July for a lap. I have now been told February next year.

Kate345 profile image
Kate345 in reply toLoulourice1982

Wow that’s a long time!

Loulourice1982 profile image

I was told decebember but the receptionist told me not a chance. After countless phone calls then told February . If I could afford it I would go private

Kate345 in reply toLoulourice1982

It’s not easy to go priviate I’ve done it with parents help as I’m not sleeping or eating and I’m so anxious just need to have it done as soon as humanly possible. I keep ringing spire every day like.. so when are we doing it lol

in reply toKate345

The most important thing is not to have it private but have it by a BSGE specialist. That is the MOST important thing. Especially that from another of your msg, you have bowel issues so you may have RV endo which is very tricky to deal with and can be totally missed by a normal surgeon/gyne. Only BSGE surgeons have studied the right excision technique to deal with endo the right way to give you long-term’ish relief. And that includes if you only want a Diagnostic lap at this stage because the surgeon needs the experience to identify the tricky endo locations 👍🎗
