Getting pregnant at 40 - any advice please?

Hi,

I'm new on here, wanted to get some advice.

I had laproscopy 2.5 weeks ago to remove endometriosis and had a cyst on my ovary removed, also found a fibroid. All went well just very slow recovery.

Surgeon said I need to get pregnant ASAP as I'm 40 and they have said try for 6 months before any medical intervention. Just wondered if anyone had any success once they had endo removed? Also which vitamins good for conception, told to take folic acid?

I know going to be harder being older. Worried its too late with covid and then a cyst waiting for surgery.

Any advise really appreciated.

Xxx

Hi, I know this might sound strange but it’s really comforting to read your post.I have been told to get pregnant because the laparoscopy waiting list is 18 months long (rather than taking the pill). So to hear you’ve had a successful op and can now think about trying to conceive is so positive as that is a worry of mine.

I am taking Pregnacare. There’s a pre-conception one and you can also buy it for men. Once pregnant, you just finish the packet and then start taking the one for pregnant women. It’s got folic acid and other relevant vitamins and minerals in. I have to say that I have noticed a boost in my energy levels since taking it and in my immunity but that could just be a coincidence.

Also, doctors say the most ideal situation is to start taking folic acid 3 months before trying for a baby however, many women don’t do this and as long as you’re taking it asap it really is fine.

Hope that helps and I wish you lots of luck on your journey x

Thank you for your reply, honestly definitely worth having the laproscopy I had to have an emergency one due to pain and cyst but they removed everything, so sorry your wait is so long but hoping it will help.

Hope you managed to sort things too,

Best wishes on your journey

I have had success with having my 2 daughters ( 2 years and 8 months old and a 1 week old) after my third lap. I’ll add I turned 40 last November! I conceived both naturally. I struggled for many years to conceive until I was eventually diagnosed & had my endometriosis treated. Good luck I hope you have success soon Xx
