Is it normal to feel so rough after GNRH analogue?!?!?

Hi,

I started Synarel nasal spray (Like Lupron or zoladex but in nasal spray) and I feel so rough?!? I started it 6 days ago and was okay till day 3 then started feeling tired, weak, bit lightheaded, my appetite gone and feel nauseous, emotional and keep feeling anxious like I’m going to have a panic attack. Im not on HRT yet as was told to wait till I get menopause symptoms then start the HRT. So we know what side effects are coming from what medication.

I don’t know how much more I can take but don’t want to stop the synarel without giving it a chance.

I don’t know what to do? Anyone else felt like this whilst taking GNRH Analogue?

Hi, these may be signs that your body is starting to go into menopause, rather than side effects, if that makes sense? If you feel anxious about it, I recommend talking to your dr again.

Yes that does make sense, only thing I’m thinking is it’s a bit soon isn’t it? It’s been a week since I started it, I thought the menopause effects would start in a few weeks.

I can’t get hold of my gynaecologist to find out :(

It depends on the strength of the dose, I guess. I’m on injections and I always get the “hit” about a week later (for me it’s hot flushes, we’re all different).Maybe try your GP or can you try your gynae’s department? This might be more of a general rather than specialist query.

Do you start HRT straight away? X

Yes, they put me on Tibolone (with Zoladex). It’s an artificial type of HRT. X

Maybe that’s why I feel so crap then as I haven’t started any HRT with it yet. Thank you x

When you first have the GnRH agonist your ovaries are overstimulated and produce a surge of oestrogen before they shut down. This lasts 3-4 weeks before menopause symptoms kick in. The synarel should be started on day 2-3 of your cycle when natural oestrogen is low. But in any case what you are likely to be experiencing is a reaction to excess oestrogen but you can have an adverse reaction to the medication itself. Whatever you do don't start HRT yet - your doctor is right on that. If you continue to feel really bad please contact your GP in case it is an adverse reaction as they will probably want you to stop taking it.

Hi! Sorry you’re feeling so terrible. I have previous experience of Zoladex which was horrendous for me, but currently on Decapeptyl. I felt in my normal range of crap for the first week or so and then started feeling very rough, followed by 12 days of bleeding until things subsided and didn’t feel quite so bad. They do say that you may notice an increase in symptoms in the first few weeks as Lindle says below. I haven’t started HRT yet either as I didn’t want to until I know for sure that everything is “shut off” so to speak. Please let us know how you are getting on now as it’s been a few weeks since your post x

Hi, it’s kind of nice to know someone else felt like crap to as being honest I keep thinking I sound like a hypochondriac as there’s always something wrong with me.

So It’s been 4 weeks now and my period has already stopped?!?! Well I was due on, on Monday. No bleeding since I started the medication.

On Saturday I had the weirdest feeling happen, my forearms both went all heavy, weak and sort of tingly and then my hands were shaking, it lasted literally a few minutes then went. It wasn’t a panic attack as I felt fine in my mind. This happened again on Monday and not again since. I woke up in a hot panic the other night and since then I feel restless, my arms feel weak, I’m anxious but tired at the same time and so emotional. Bet u wish u had never asked after all that lol!

I keep feeling panicky because I don’t feel myself at all but I’m gonna keep on riding it in the hope things will stabilise and I can have a bit of pain free time and maybe even feel a bit normal and energetic! Well that’s what I’m hoping for anyway x
