What makes your pain worse?

Does anyone else have worse pain with their periods when they eat or drink certain things? I had a night out last night and had a few drinks, woke up this morning with day 1 of my period and an agonising flare up that even anti inflammatories wouldn’t touch. I also feel worse when I eat a lot of junk food during my period. Wondering if anyone else has a similar issue with certain foods or drinks?

In better news, I’ve finally been approved for my laparoscopy! I’ll have to wait a while for the surgery since there’s a long backlog due to covid but I’m happy I’ll be finally getting some answers.

Yep 😔 Got to watch what i eat, drink. How far I walk. What shoes I wear. How i sit 😏 it's life rulling isn't it 😔

Aww brilliant news on the future op!

I'm on the waiting list too 😊 x

I get this too. I did the “endo diet” for a while and slowly added things back in. I’ve now worked out that alcohol and sugar will cause massive flares and to avoid them but that I’m OK with a little bit of gluten and dairy. Good luck with your op!

Absolutely!

The worse pain I have ever experienced was on the 1st Jan this year - after a week of Christmas feasting and a night out on New Years eve. it was an AGONY, i had to get an extra pill as the prescribed dose of the painkillers did not help. I also had a very new type of the pain i never had before - more like a burning sensation. Is it what you felt?

I usually eat way less meat, don't drink much alcohol or milk, reduce sugars and junk food, not much into bread - mostly due to my personal preferences to be honest.

I had the 2nd day of the period yesterday (keeping my usual lifestyle, food preferences) and it was soo much better. I also started taking Magnesium, I think it helps too - found out about it here

Yes!! The burning 😭 I experienced something similar on the 2nd January about two years ago after a New Years celebration which actually led to me being referred to my gynae! I was in a taxi and the pain was so bad he had to pull over and I had to call an ambulance because I was losing consciousness from the pain ! It’s that burning sensation on top of the cramps that was too much to bear. Thanks for the magnesium recommendation, I’ve had a few people recommend it now and might give it a go!

Hi coco1860, great news about your laparoscopy approval! Wish you the best of luck with it. Food definitely affects endometriosis. Well technically it affects all physiological conditions! It's best to avoid high sugar, wheat/gluten and dairy foods as they cause inflammation in general and definitely result in endo "flare ups". Magnesium Malate is a great supplement for your nerves and therefore helps reduce endo pain. It's changed my life! Changing my diet has helped me manage my endo symptoms MUCH BETTER :) It's always hard when you start cutting foods out, especially when you're so used to emotional eating - usually because of having endometriosis! But when you see the changes overtime, you'll never look back. Hope that helps x

Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to give magnesium a go as I’ve had a few people recommend it to me now x

Yes - Coffee and Chocolate are the two main things that will raise my pain level. Unfortunately they are also the things I crave when I'm on my period.

Oh I feel you. All I want is to do curl up in bed with a bar of chocolate when I’m feeling my worst and the only thing that’ll keep me going if I’m up and about is coffee! But I know it’ll cause me more pain :(

Hi, we all react differently but I found that wheat, sugar, caffeine and alcohol all made my symptoms worse. Changing to a more anti-inflammatory diet definitely helped managed my endo symptoms.
