Mirena coil malposition, low lying

Hi everyone

I currently have the Mirena coil which was inserted/replaced during my lap in March 2021. I just had an internal ultrasound due to ongoing add increasing pain to check if any new cysts and luckily none found. However my Mirena is low lying at 7mm low.

I have a history of expulsion and malpositioned iud’s and am wondering if this is common (can’t find much or any specific research) with endo. Also whether this is low enough to remove or leave. First jaydess coil fully expelled itself after awful period where cramping and contractions literally pushed it out! They replaced with Mirena as slightly larger but that was discovered to have moved in ultrasound pre gynae referral and as trialling provera that time they replaced to avoid impacting effectiveness of provera trial. It was replaced in my surgery but vaguely remember surgeon saying it was off position but not noted anywhere so not sure. Then under a year since this one is low lying not yet twisted or expelled or damaging inside but is it worth the risk?!

I’m tempted to just remove and go cold turkey no hormonal contraception and management plan endo wise because I feel like I need to listen to my body saying nope to the coil again and again. I don’t want to go back on the pill I’ve tried them all and no luck before. I skin pick chronically so can’t handle the implant. Ugh. I don’t know what to do.

Any experiences and or advice would be so appreciated

Claire

Hi lovely I had my first coiled fitted last may due to being pushed by my gyae consultant and since then have found out it has migrated to my abdominal wall.

I am still awaiting surgery to have it removed. My consultant asked if I would like a new one fitted. I told her I would prefer to go cold turkey which she made a comment that it isn’t sensible, so now I am on the depo again. I have never had an issue with a depo as I was on that before the coil.

Listen to your body at the end of the day it is your choice ,

There is very little information about migration or expulsion online.

Hope you find some answers

Thank you so much that’s really helpful. I literally just had a chat with the GP about it and she’s very against removing it saying it would be a big step backwards but I do feel like I need to listen to it being the fourth moved and not risk it migrating to somewhere it can damage. It’s stressful not knowing what to do and advocating one thing and being convinced of another when no option really fixes or solves it all. Ugh. I really hope you get your operation booked in soon!! Fingers crossed for you xx
