Bloating and gas (?) pain after Laproscopy

Hi. I had my lap a week ago today. Had stage 3 endometriosis and he removed an endometrioma from both ovaries, released the ovaries which were stuck to the uterus and also released my bowel.

Pain is generally not too bad but I feel very bloated, almost like I am going to pop out of my skin!

Also very uncomfortable particularly after eating. Currently in bed with a hot water bottle after shooting pains in my tummy and down my legs which I think are due to gas? And the feeling that I am constipated (I don’t think I am) or need to pass gas

Doctor said this is normal and due to the bowel being stunned and not working that well. My husband thinks I have tried to do too much to soon as have been doing some work since weds (from home at a computer)….

Just wanted some views / reassurance as to if anyone else experienced any bloating or uncomfortable feelings like this?

I had my lap a week ago today, they excised from my ovaries, pouch of douglas and uterosacral ligaments (no idea what stage that is). I've had gas pains all week, plus a load of shooting pains, pain urinating and such. I'm putting it all down to healing, our bodies have been through so much. You know your body best and what you're capable of. Personally I've found sitting upright too uncomfortable to even work from home. This is my third surgery and I've previously done too much too soon which resulted in a slower recovery. Not sure how useful my reply will be, I just wanted to say I'm having lots of discomfort too, but it's likely to be healing. Take it easy, all the best in your recovery xx

Thank you for your reply. I am trying to rest a bit more this weekend. And just go with the fact that my tummy gets bloated, hard and uncomfortable if I eat or sit up for too long!

Might need to reassess my work situation next week too.

It is frustrating not being able to do much!

Thought I would check in and see how you are getting on with your recovery? I spent most of the weekend in bed, and have been resting a lot this week too. Pulled out of some work things I had which I think was the right decision.

Feeling better now but tummy still gets a bit big / bloated after eating or if I sit up too much. And get tired quickly.

I'm feeling loads better thank you. I've taken two weeks to recover as my sick note allowed. Really pleased you've been able to get lots of rest. I know what you mean with getting tired quickly, I feel that too. Even a 20 minute walk feels tiring. I hope the bloat stops, I wonder if your body is more sensitive to being full since the bowel being unstuck. X

You really shouldn’t be doing too much at all for first few weeks as recovery will take longer. Your insides have had a lot done and need time to heal and laying down is best for that and helps adhesions not to form. Gentle walks each day are best for the gas pain and peppermint tea can help too. With stage 3 you should have only been treated at a bsge centre so hope you were.

Thank you for your reply. Have been taking it very easy over the weekend with most of the time spent in bed or on the sofa and am feeling quite a bit better now. Tummy still feels quite bloated and swollen up, typically after eating or sitting too long but my doctor did say that was normal. Will try to work a little less this week with regular breaks to lie down!
