Almost 4 weeks post lap and still can’t sleep on my side

I’m back again! Maybe I’m trying to rush things but you hear about ppl returning to work after 2 weeks etc, I’ll be 4 weeks post lap on Tuesday. I spoke to my gp on Thursday who has signed me off work for a further 2 weeks. I can tell I’m improving but I still can’t sleep on my side for the pain, and I can only walk for about 15/20 mins before the throbbing stabbing pains kick in and I need go sit down and rest. Is this normal? The gp says so. And I know I shouldn’t compare but it’s easier said than done. If it helps I had endo removed from everywhere, bowel, pouch of Douglas etc… 4 incisions, they also said I’ve got a left hydrosalpinx. I was in surgery for almost 3 hours. I appreciate hearing anyone else’s experiences, thank you. Xxx

Hi lovely

Sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I’m 2. 1/2 weeks post lap and still feel meh and been signed off for another 2 weeks. I too thought I’d be up and on my feet after two weeks which was disheartening as I told work I think I would be back after 2 but I’m feeling it’ll be more like 6 weeks at the rate. I had extensive surgery like yourself and was under a long time too as well having a reaction to the morphine which required an overnight stay.

My belly button currently has an infection and I’m taking antibiotics. Have your incisions healed okay? Have you had them checked?

Side sleeping still alludes me, I’m finding back sleeping a challenge due to other joint problems.

Sending you recovery hugs. Feel better soon. Xx

Hey, thanks for replying. My incisions look pretty good to be fair, not had them checked though. The belly button one is the iffiest and one of the left ones is indented so I’m not sure if I need that checking, as in my side sort of goes in. Sounds gross I know. Hope you start feeling some ease soon. I tried going out today for a bit but after 15/20 mins of walking I was In agony. I wish I could sleep on my side, like you say, on my back is awful, I suffer with herniated discs in my back so it isn’t the best. Hope we turn a corner soon. Sending you lots of healing hugs and love too. Stay on touch. Xx

I had a laparoscopy 2 years ago and return to work after 6 weeks and was still really slow to walk. I dont understand when i read 2 weeks. It was definitely not the case for me. I habe a total hysterectomy in a month and i will be off at least 10 weeks as advised by surgeon

Hi Kitty, I had my first lap this year. I normally sleep on my side and so found it hard having to sleep on my back after the op. I can’t remember exactly how long it was before I could sleep on my side again? But it may have been 5/6 weeks… I normally find it really uncomfortable to lie flat on my back, so I put a thin cushion under my knees to tilt my pelvis when lying on my back. It was the best thing that helped me though that time. Well and pain relief too. It was 7 weeks before I felt well enough to start back at work. Luckily I work for myself, so it was easier for me. Try not to compare with others. We are all unique. My dr said the average recovery time is 6 weeks. I think it also depends what kind of job you do, if you are sitting down all day you may be able to go back earlier. I do a physical outside job mostly. So it took longer before I was able to do it. Be patient and gentle with yourself while you are healing. J x

Hi,

Yes same here. Took about 6-8 weeks if not longer for me to sleep on my side. Had stage 4 endo, large cyst and one ovary removed. I had 6 weeks off work too. Hope you feel better soon! X

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I must admit it was 6 weeks for me too. Just make sure they check you for infection. Keep up the pain meds for a bit longer it’s worth it. But don’t try to do too much. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
