5 weeks post Lap and still really struggling

Hey Ladies, I’m 5 weeks post Lap and still really struggling with pain and fatigue. I knew it wouldn’t completely go but my surgeon cut out a large adhesion and cut out any endo he could find, he disconnected my bowl and ovary and put dissolvable matter inside my abdomen to try to prevent it sticking again. I’m fed up! struggling to take the stairs. Struggling to stand up and struggle to do most things. I want to live relatively normal get back to things like light exercise ect. I have dramatically changed my diet cut out dairy, cut down gluten, cut down meat alcohol. Cut out processed food completely. I’m on progesterone. Take loads of supplements like milk thistle, Tumric the list goes on and CBD oil which does really help but it’s still bad. Iv started stomach massage to help break up adhesions. Last night I had dinner and was crying in pain in a ball on the sofa whimpering like a small child. 😖I’m trying to be patient but I’m just not sure if the pain will calm down. I get pain in my groin, pelvis, hips, bum and down my legs. If I move my right leg to much makes the pain radiate up to my ribs so I endo up walking with a limp. Do you think I’m still recovering or this is how it will be now? Or are my expectations too high?

Thanks Hannah x

Hi Hannah,

Gosh it sounds like your operation was a big one! 5 weeks for such an operation does seem like early days still but if I was you (and I did just this a few weeks ago) I would call the hospital and tell them that you’re struggling with your recovery and ask to see your consultant sooner for your post-op check up. Hopefully they will be able to provide some reassurances and make sure you’re healing okay 😊

I didn’t have the same op as you but I’m 8 weeks post op today and I’m really struggling. I thought I would be better by now so my mental health is awful / I’m worse now than before the op! The way I’ve kept going is by having a plan, seeing a consultant, finding out what’s going on. Xxx

Hey, okay brilliant thank you I have seen my GP but it was centred around my mental health a and how I’m feeling about things. I think maybe I’m not being patient enough if I’m honest. I think my expectations are too high.

Bless you, oh no 😖 it’s really tough and because the ops are so different all recovery is too so it’s difficult to know what’s what. I hope you manage to find relief and look after your mental health because it does take such a huge toll. Thank you very good advice I’m going to get an appointment sorted soon and always have a plan it will give me comfort and mental relief I think x

It takes 6-8 weeks to be back to baseline and even longer to be better than before! Be patient with yourself and take lots of breaks :) I know it’s frustrating but your body is still recovering from a big surgery!

Thank you. 🙌 needed to hear this I think I’m rushing it. I only got diagnosed and very ill this year and I’m very used to carrying on (I know it’s not the right way to do things) last year was a very busy year and I was on the go all the time x

I had the same situation happen! I went from going to school full time while also working almost full time hours, to now being off work and school completely since April. It’s really rough :( but rest and time is the best thing to heal well :)
