Shall I have a laparoscopy yet?

Hello. About 6 months ago I started getting excruciating period pain. I was referred to gynocology and had an ultrasound that revealed I have a uterine polyp (around 2cm which is apparently quite large) The consultant said that polyps don’t cause pain so suggested a diagnostic laparoscopy at the same time as the hysteroscopy to check for endo (I’m booked for both procedures on 23rd June) I’d never considered I might have it before but have always had heavy irregular periods. I’m 38 and have been trying for a baby for a while now. There’s a good chance the polyp has stopped my chances of conceiving. I’ve started taking lots of different vitamins, and have weekly acupuncture. Last month I had no period pain at all and also generally the symptoms I was having outside of my period are virtually gone. This makes me wonder whether I might not have endo?

I’m concerned that if I have the lap that my periods in the months after will be terrible (as I’ve read on here) and my chance of conceiving will be hindered by this?

I’m concerned if I don’t have the lap, that I will still struggle to conceive even with no polyp and will need one in the future and have to go back onto the waiting list etc.

I’d love some advice and reassurance from anyone who has been in a similar situation. I just don’t know what to do for the best for my body and for maximising my chances for conceiving which at my age I feel more and more desperate for as time goes on!

Thanks so much.

Is there any chance you might be pregnant? Please check just in case!

I had a lap a few years ago, which caused a hernia. Now I need another op to repair the hernia. Personally I regret having the lap and will not have surgery in future unless it is absolutely essential.

I believe most laps, however, are problem free. Definitely discuss the risks with your Gynaecologist or GP before you make a decision!

Beat of luck whatever you decide! xx
