I’m new to the forum and wondered if there’s anyone who has had a full or partial hysterectomy who is open to sharing their experiences? I’ve had endometriosis for the past 20 years and have had two previous surgeries. The coil gave me a few years break from the symptoms but they have since worsened and a scan has confirmed endometriosis.
I have the option of further surgery but am not sure which, if any, to consider. I’m wary of having another procedure but equally don’t want to have to endure all the symptoms whilst not knowing if/when things will get worse.

I had a hysterectomy with ovaries left in and endo continued to grow. I dont regret it as could not have coped with the flooding every month, stand up and down my legs type flooding. I do think that they should have been straight tho and not said that’s it now endo is all gone as then had to fight 3 yrs for them to believe I still had pain. Still having problems now so next month am trying grnh injection. I am 46 and fed up with suffering since age 12. It really wears u out not only dealing with the disease but the fight to be listened to and believed. Good luck xx
Thanks for responding EndoJaz. Really good to hear others experience and perspectives. It really can get you down as like you, it took a long time for me to be diagnosed. At times I felt as though no one believed me. I know that there’s no perfect route to take but keen to make an informed decision. I’m wary of a full hysterectomy as I’m in my 30’s but equally don’t want to have to have further procedures. I hope the injection gives you some relief xx
I had full hysterectomy and both ovaries removed you go straight into menopause, I was told endometriosis will go while in menopause, also I was told if ovaries are kept you will still have symptoms and pain. I dont have pain anymore, you have hot flushes ect with menopause and put weight on, everyone is different with menopause, also you dont have smear test anymore.
I had LAVH and BSO in December 2019 for Adeno and Endo stage 2 at the age of 42 years old. I am coping well with the menopause symptoms without taking any oral HRT. I take Vagifem which is a type of local HRT used to treat symptoms of vaginal dryness. I don’t regret the hysterectomy at all as my quality of life is far better now. The only downside for me is total loss of libido and sex life but I guess it’s a small price to pay to be out of pain and not to be severely anaemic all the time. I could take oral HRT but I’m too frightened that it would aggravate the endo. In terms of recovery, I was discharged after only 24 hours. I had help at home for the first week as I was mostly resting. I was walking the school run on the second week (tiny steps). It took me around 3 months though to feel more myself. Whatever course of treatment you decide to go with, I wish you all the very best and hope you have a positive experience as I did.
