Cleaning - how to keep up?

Hi, Do you have any tips on how to keep up with the household chores after a lap?

I'm not the tidiest person, but I do like to do a "clean sweep" every weekend - laundry, dishes, counters & sink, some vacuuming. For me, a certain level of cleanliness helps reduce that kind of mildly depressed feeling from moving in. But, it's week 3 after my lap, and I think cleaning is an Olympic sport today. After putting on a load of laundry and folding the dry clothes, I'm tired and my tummy hurts. My husband has had a heck of a month too - too many late days of overtime, being worried about me, and his own trips to the doctors for a variety of things that make him feel tired and unwell. In other words, he already has too much to deal with.

I suppose the trick is to pace myself - not to do the usual cleaning blitz, but to do it in smaller sections and rest in between.

Has anyone done something really indulgent, like paid for a cleaning service for an afternoon? I know that sounds crazy, but even breaking it down into smaller activities, I'm not sure I can keep up. I know that sounds super wimpy. I will own it - I am a super wimpy this week. 😉

Hi. Hope you are feeling ok and giving yourself plenty of time to rest. Trying to keep on top of things is very hard work especially when you are in pain/ recovering from surgery. Have you heard of the organised mum method ( team TOMM Gem Bray)? It’s half an hour each day, can be broken into little chunks or done in one go and over 8 weeks all areas are covered. I find it fairly easy and if you have a day you really can’t face it I just wash up and pick up it the next day. If you are in the position to have someone come in and do you a spring clean it would make something like that really easier going forward , if it’s going to be a stretch then I’d save the money for a treat and follow the 8 weeks and hopefully you’ll see a difference. Do you have pets or children? Cx

Hi, if you’re both not feeling up to it then I would definitely pay for a cleaner. Treat your selves!! You’ve both had a hell of a year I would guess (based on your description of how you both feel). Put your feet up and enjoy having a rest you deserve it xx

Hi Harriet, Thanks for being so kind. In the end - I had three "minidays" yesterday with rest time between - a short morning cleaning, a short afternoon time in the sun, and a short afternoon cleaning. I've never felt so tired to my toes and my brain cells before, between doing things! I actually just went to lie down and wait for my body to recharge between each thing. I'm sure it will get better from here, but I'm somewhat worried how long the fatigue will last. But in the end, we have a fairly clean kitchen again, so that's a relief!

Now, I've graduated to "micro yoga" 😉 - just going for a mini stretch after these weeks being so careful not to jolt anything.

I also have no strength at all to clean. I don’t know what to do with it anymore. I want to lie on the bed all day and eat ice cream. Мy dog is constantly lying under the bed because it is sooo hot. Yesterday I asked my husband to find a good aircon service airconservicingsingapore.com/ . I urgently need an air conditioner or even 2. I am already really looking forward to the installation of an air conditioner in our house.I hope now I will feel much better and enjoy my household chores.

I do the same, since i got the diagnosis i have started delegating a lot of tasks. Have a window cleaner, someone who cuts my grass, I got myself a dyson hoover handheld one as it is easy to use, declutter the house. The less you have the less is to clean. I use a dog walker once a week to give me a break. To a lot of people this might sound like a luxury but to me is a neccesity. So pleased to hear you have acknowledged that you need help. If you can afford financially treat yourself

Def agree with having a lie down between each task. Also the declutter thing is true, get rid of all the unnecessary stuff and yes to the handheld cordless vacuum as you can do little bursts when needed x
