Newly Diagnosed + New Hormones

So after years of symptoms I finally had surgery in Jan 2021 where I had confirmation I do have Endometriosis.....what a relief! The surgery removed all the endometriosis (ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel).

I was on a double dose of progesterone pre surgery for 3 years(ish) and I have now come off this and have the Mirena Coil fitted.

My question is regarding symptoms and anything I can do to help them.

Pre surgery I had what I call phantom period cramps which are generally dull and achy but occasionally cause me to double over in agony for brief periods of time. These are still ongoing. Aside from having a hot water bottle glued to me is there anything else I can do?

Due to a pre existing back injury I'm already on regular painkillers + supplements so can't take anymore.

I've also been feeling sick after eating. I've tried eating small and often and tried drinking a glass of water before but nothing seems to help. I'm never sick just feel like I have a big weight in my stomach which causes me to feel sick.

I was having really bad night sweats but have started using a spray on my pillow at night aswell as sleeping in very thing cotton which seems to be helping.

I also have the sudden urge to pee but I won't necessarily have a full bladder. There was no endometriosis visible on my water works.

I'm also very irritable. I think it's all hormone related but just trying to think of something to help.

Can anyone offer some advice please?

Buscopan will help with the period like pain, which is caused by muscle contraction!..

Also be mindful of what your bowels are doing! Heavy pain relief can cause constipation, which will increase your pain.

Try and stay active! Exercise helps Endo by lowering estrogen!

Nausea! Good old ginger or peppermint tea! Drinking lemon water after meals can help aid digestion!

Thank you so much! I'll have a look at the Buscopan.

Bowels are completely the opposite when I have pain flare ups! I like its all related to the lasting effects of having endometriosis and scar tissue effect it.

I'm doing a daily walk (one good thing about lockdown). Will be trying to get more exercise once we are allowed.

I'm not a big peppermint fan but will look at the lemon water.

Thank you again xx

P.S it really sucks being a women at times! X

Buscopan is a very good trick! People think it’s just an ‘IBS’ treatment, actually it’s a muscle relaxant, that’s good for anything, bowel, womb even bladder! I was in for a massive pelvic infection other month, and because I ain’t allowed heavy pain killers, I was treated with buscopan! Worked a treat!

Be mindful, constipation can cause ‘overflow’ diarrhoea! Just because you’re one way, doesn’t mean you can’t possibly be the other! Hence the need to watch what your bowel is doing, especially post surgery! About 20 + times in the last 4 years, since my surgery, I’ve tootled along fine, then suddenly been wiped out with an impaction, and that’s without the use of painkillers! Believe me, you don’t want an impaction! Lol.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering. I find lemon and ginger tea really good for the nausea. The co-ops own brand is cheaper but not as gingery so very pleasant with an extra lemon slice popped in! I would also second the exercise advise. Although you might have to fight with yourself to keep motivated, I’ve recently started beginners yoga and have found this really helpful to manage some of my pain. Good luck x
