Hello Does anyone get lower left side back pain with endo? I have been suffering quite badly the last few months the same time in my cycle with lower back pain. To the point it's hard to move around. It feels like a pulling sensation from my left hip. I'm just wondering if it could be connected to endo as I've started noticing it only happens same time in my cycle. I've been to see an osteopath previously and they said my whole left side has gone into spasm it takes a couple of weeks to calm down normally. I have my laparoscopy in a couple of weeks.

Lower left side back pain
Hi - I have just read the first post you put on and am sorry I was unable to respond at the time.
I notice that at the moment that your symptoms occur with your period but in your first post two months ago you were suffering left sided pelvic and lower back pain all the time which was only relieved by a bowel movement, and sometimes left leg pain. Even if this has eased and is now only with periods don't lose sight of how it was before as symptoms can be variable.
This is typical of rectovaginal endo that predominantly affects the left side. The uterosacral ligaments that join the cervix to the sacrum are the most common location for deep endo and endo generally and there are nerves that runs along the top of the ligaments (the pelvic splanchnic nerves) that arise from the same nerve roots in the sacrum as the sciatic nerves. So irritation/compression of the nerves by uterosacral ligament endo is usually referred and felt in the lower back and left thigh/leg. It is often all of the time to some degree and worse with periods. It can be so bad as to actually prevent walking.
Other symptoms will usually be bowel pain/problems and relief with a bowel movement is typical as the compaction of poo stretches and pulls on scar tissue. Pain with or after sexis common too, if that is appropriate.
It is vital that your lap is done by someone with expertise/specialist training in endo who will look in the areas involved and will know not to touch it if found. If you do have RV endo you would need referring on to a BSGE accredited specialist centre. I know it didn't show on ultrasound but finding deep endo is a specialised skill which regular sonographers in gynaecology usually don't have so a clear scan doesn't mean you don't have it. Is you lap being done by a specialist?
Thanks so much for this detailed response. I’m with a normal gynaecologist so not BSGE. Should I ask to be referred? My operation is meant to be on the 13th of this month with the gynaecologist and I’m so so scared about it. Do you know how long referrals take here for private health? My symptoms vary enormously from month to month but right now it’s in my lower left back. I’ve experienced blood in my stool on a previous occasion too which and nothing was found on a colonoscopy. I’m just lucky (if you can call it that) that I have pcos so only have a period about every 60 days but looking back at previous periods this back pain is always the same time in a cycle x
Hi,
Hope you are well.
I agree with Lindle. I have rv endometriosis diagnosed by a lap in 2019 and my main symptoms are left side lower abdomen, hip, lower back pain and leg pain. It was originally experienced on the run up to my period, during and just after but then became constant. Im currently on a waiting list for surgery with a BSGE surgeon. I wish you lots of luck.
Thank you. Was your original lap done by a normal gynaecologist?
Yes, because they couldn't meet the NHS waiting list timescale, my surgeon was changed. She could diagnose and remove any endo on the outside but as mine is deep with adhesions, she couldn't touch it. Im now in the hands of an endo specialist BSGE accredited and waiting on a Colorectal surgeon. Been waiting a year so far so been put on Decapeptyl for temporary menopause. Making a big difference
Thanks so much! It’s no way to live is it. I had a pre-scan on Friday before my lap so I’m going to ask him about the BSGE referral. Hope your referral comes soon x
No problem at all. Yeah I agree, feel like you can't move on and make plans with all the uncertainty. I wish you luck x
Hello
I’m sorry to jump on such an old post - and I certainly hope you’ve had your surgery by now!
I’m having the exact same symptoms on my left hand side, along with the usual period pains etc. I’m waiting for a referral to a gynae so I’ve not been diagnosed with anything yet.
Bit of a personal question, and feel free to not reply! 😂 But I’ve found sometimes I almost get shooting pains in my rectum. Is this something you’ve ever had with your rv endo? x
Hello Laurak26,Had my surgery April 21. Yes that was one of my main symptoms. Can be quite painful. Instant relief as soon as I had my surgery. Unfortunately I am starting to feel some symptoms return. I'm really hoping not x
I’m sorry to hear that 😔 Keeping everything crossed it’s not back x
