I had my third 3 monthly prostap injection on 10th December and have today started the most horrendous period. I feel like my uterus is being sliced with hot knives. I’m also experiencing hot sweats unlike the flushes I’ve been experiencing previously.
The last two injections have worked fine for the past six months. Why is this time different? X
Hi, It could be a duff injection? I didn't have your issue but 2 weeks in after a new injection I did have a flare up of pain. If could be that you have changed your diet over the few weeks leading up to Christmas? Over several years I have found my stomach and bowel very sensitive to certain foods which are harder to digest. Nuts, foods with soya which has estrogen in, like chocolate. Gluten and Lactose. Cos I have hay-fever and Asthma, foods which have Histamine in like Banana. The inflammation effect with Endo and the nuts don't digest well with the Adhesions on my bowel.❤️

It’s red, like a proper full on period. I’ve bled through tampons and pads all night.
Hi there! I had the exact same thing in early December - about 2 weeks after my 3rd prostap I started bleeding unexpectedly and was in so much pain. It only lasted a couple of days, but then returned about a week later but with less pain but heavier bleeding. I have ended up taking some iron tablets as I was feeling really tired and my gp said that if the bleeding got heavier they would have to give me something to stop it. I didn’t know whether to have my 4th prostap injection last week, but the consultant said to go ahead and contact him if things did not improve. I spoke with him yesterday and he said that bleeding while on prostap was unlucky but did not seem concerned and said that it would eventually stop. He said it can be more painful as the prostap makes the cervix shrink and so the uterus needs to work harder to expel the lining. Fingers crossed it’s improving now (lasted about 14 days). Hope that helps! Like you I was so confused as to what was happening (and gutted after having a good few pain free weeks too!). Take care, hope it improves for you soon x
Thank you so much for your reply. The pain has been really intense. I have adenomyosis as well as endometriosis and the pain has been unreal for the past two weeks. I had an awful migraine on Tuesday night, and was sick then started bleeding Wednesday morning. It’s really heavy and I feel so tired. I have the three monthly injections, so my first was end of June, then end of September and last one I had early on 10th December. I didn’t bleed in that first six months except for one small bleed just after the first injection which he said was normal.
Hopefully this won’t last long it just shocked me as my body seemed to have got used to being in a medical menopause but obviously I’m still ovulating!

I know what you mean! I was quite taken aback when it happened (and woefully unprepared as I was at work 🙈)! I am just on the monthly injections, but also have endo that was diagnosed 10 years ago and after my more recent lap last year they now think adenomyosis too.
Is it worth speaking to your gp to see if they can adjust your pain meds while this is going on? I’ve been using naproxen/cocodamol (which is what I used to use before the prostap) but they said I could use tramadol instead of the cocodamol if required (only used this at night as it knocks me out a bit). Might be worth seeing if you can get anything from your gp to reduce the bleeding too if it’s really heavy - the consultant yesterday mentioned tranexamic acid or norethisterone. Really hope it settles down for you soon xx
