Bulky uterus: Hi I suffer with... - Endometriosis UK
Bulky uterus
Hello.
I was advised this after a scan I had before my most recent surgery and my consultant advised it is adenomyosis which frequently comes secondary to endometriosis.
An mri scan would show more detail or a laparoscopy would confirm.
I had the mirena coil put in which didn’t do much for the pain or bowel endometriosis but has helped the adenomyosis.
Best wishes to you xxx
Hi thanks for the reply, I had an mri earlier this year which they said my uterus looked fine, but yesterday an internal scan showed it’s bulky. I’m currently waiting on lap but looks like that’s gonna be late next year with everything that’s going on. I’ve just read up it can cause problems with fertility an stuff, so worried. I’ve tried mirena twice in past if anything made my pain worst, can’t take pill or anything as it gives me bad migraines.
Usually a bulky uterus means adenomyosis. There is no way to know for sure until you have a hysterectomy. It’s the only cure for adenomyosis. Basically it’s endos evil twin sister. It grows in the uterus muscle wall so can’t be removed surgically.
With both of these conditions you need to find a birth control that works for you. Both of these conditions feed on estrogen so as long as your body is producing high amounts you will allow your Endo to keep growing and getting worse. A lap is a temporary fix. It removes the current adhesions but the new ones will just grow unless you control your hormones. You can only have 5-6 laps in your lifetime before they say you just have to live with the pain because it causes scar tissue each time you have one and eventually they just can’t.
If fertility is what you’re worried about then you need to find a way to help preserve it until you’re ready. There are 3 or 4 different styles of iud plus there are several brands of each, there is vissane, back to back birth control pills (there are hundreds of brands to keep trying), lupron depot shot. No medication is going to not give you side effects. You just have to learn what is going to give you the least amount and how to tolerate it.
I have 17 chronic conditions so I fully understand how overwhelming this all is. It’s scary when you’re given a new diagnosis and not sure how to fix it. I no longer see my GP for medical advice because he is useless. All regular medical staff now a days don’t have any knowledge of invisible chronic illnesses. I now see a private doctor who is a lifestyle medicine and brain health specialist. I finally have someone who medically explains things to me. Plus I’ve done tons of none stop research. Please let me know if you have any questions at all and I’m sorry to sound pushy about birth control it’s just that I read a ton of people on these forums who won’t take it and keep getting laps every two years. Personally it took me 6 months to bounce back from this surgery so it’s not something I can easily do every few years.
Sending lots of love your way. 💕
Thanks for the reply, I don’t want a hysterectomy as I want kids more than anything but I’ve struggled to conceive for bout 7-8years now. My gyno is organising a mri now for me. I did have one a few months ago but it didn’t show my uterus was bulky. I’ve tried prostap injections an some painkiller that made my pain worst. I’m currently taking northosterone which hasn’t helped much. I did want ivf but I couldn’t get the funding.
