Bladder catheter post laproscopy

Hi ladies,

I’m about 24hrs post op after having laparoscopic surgery to remove stage 4 endo from pelvis and bladder, three large fibroids and two cysts from my ovaries. Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus 😅 what’s really bothering me though is the bladder catheter I’ve got to have in for a week. I was just wondering if anybody else had experience of these and if you also found it uncomfortable. It’s hard to know what’s ‘normal’ and whether it will be get easier as the week goes on. Should I feel this weird pulling sensation? And how do you go to for a no.2 with that tube there?! 🙈 Sorry for the somewhat distasteful questions but would really appreciate some advice or reassurance x

Yes I had one in for a week. When severe endo affects the bladder it needs to be rested to heal. It is a strange feeling - I was aware of the tube pulling especially if I turned in bed and pulled it but it wasn't painful. It won't affect pooing at all but be sure to wipe away from your urethra as we women should do anyway. I was on my own and had a young child to look after and remember finding having to cart the bag around on the stand the most annoying. If you have support around you rest up - a week will soon pass. x

Hi yes it’s normal have you got a flip Flo one or a bag attached? I had one for months and I could take the long tube off for the bag so it would just sit in my pants so much comfier than having a tube down the leg 🤣

Hiya, I’m not sure.... I have a bag attached that I empty but don’t change. The attachment at the bottom of the bag is a flip switch so might be flip flo? Not sure if I can have it in my pants unfortunately, I’m worried about fiddling too much with tube attachments. I’ve used some medical tape to secure it to my leg and that has helps with the pulling sensation.

Just counting down the days until I can hopefully have it removed. You’re amazing for putting up with one for months.

Does it hurt a lot when it’s taken out? I was asleep when they put it in.

Sounds like a flip flo one you can remove tube from it and it’s a lot comfier but up to you and yes they do pull, no mine haven’t hurt when taken out more putting them in is sore x
