Hello all wishing you health during these hard times,
For quite some time I been experience so much hair fall, when i wash my hair a clump of hair falls also happens when i brush it or anything! even when i loosely plait them hair strands still fall. Most if not all of the strands have little white bulbs. so seemingly its coming from my root.
Last month I had my iron, ferratin checked for an unrelated issue (dizziness which has no subsided) but it came back normal, even tho 2 years ago my ferratin was pretty low. i feel like crying evertime ive brushed it. Its been on and off for 2 years or so but has been quite dramatic lately. i am naturally an anxious person so idk if its stress related or if its anything hormonal- I do have the nexplanon implant but I experienced hair loss before I had this put in last November, Since my town is in local lockdown I dont wanna phone doctors just yet since its not an emergency but any experiences with this are surely welcome.
p.s I also have chronic bloating all day everyday through the whole month, its all making me feel less confident
Thank you x

Hi nicjane! I am sorry to hear of this difficult time you are going through. Did they check your thyroid as i believe it can be linked to that? My mum has alopecia and she is so beautiful and an inspiration. I understand, from seeing her losing her hair, what you are going through. Hard as it is, try not to worry.. if they haven’t checked your thyroid, get this checked. My mum always gets lots of compliments on her ‘hair’ (a very believeable wig). Stay positive, stay strong xx
My hair seems to be coming out in larger quantities than it should - the plughole is blocked everytime I bath/ shower.
The only other times I've experienced this has been straight after giving birth; when hormones decide to remove that extra lushness that went on during pregnancy. I now have 2 receding areas at either side of my forehead. (gonna look like Count Dracula soon 😂)!
I have also had normal blood test results - iron, thyroid, liver & kidney function test, full blood count, inflammation - all normal.
I will say that another lady on here has previously mentioned that the progesterone only injection caused her to loose her hair, but I also tried that hormonal treatment & that was not 1 of my side effects.
I would imagine that stress/ anxiety doesn't help - something I also live with.
As with the bloating, see my last post if you click on my profile 🤦
I find that I really have to watch what I eat or suffer the 'large' consequences - it's worse after eating & can carry over to the next morning.
Try not to judge yourself on the consequences of an illness that has chosen to inflict itself upon you.
Can you think of 5 positive/helpful people/ things to give you an emotional boost for today?
Female hair loss (on the head) can be related to PCOS (can have both endo and PCOS at once), menopause, stress, and just in case it is relevant there has been people who have had Covid-19, that after they have recovered are experiencing a lot of hair loss on their heads.
I suffer really badly with the thinning of my hair which has just seemed to get worse as I get older. If you are braiding it, make sure it is loosely as you can easily be pulling more hair out with any stress on your hair. If you haven't already, invest in some fabric hair bands or ones covered in silk. I've heard (but haven't tested it yet) that sleeping on a silk pillow case can lessen the damage on your hair as well. Also try to change up the way you braid it so it is not causing any stress on the same spots daily. I usually only finger comb my hair, except on wash days, to try and cut down on hair loss as well. You can get supplements that are a mix of vitamins aimed at the health of you hair and nails but I'm not sure how much help it will be for hair coming out at the root. It does help with breakage though.
Obviously identifying the root reason you are having your own hair loss is important, but I hope some of the above info might help as well.
Ps if you find it is visible and are looking at ways to hide it there are some great videos on line of how to use makeup to fill in the hair line and/or little thinning patches on your head. If you Google the topic you should find a variety. There are some variances in methods so it is worth checking several out to find the one you as most comfortable with and have the most success with.
There are so many things that can cause hair loss but I will say this most of the time their is not much you can do about it!you can look at eating healthier your contraception can cause hair loss as well as stress mainly physical I’ve found rather than emotional I’ve had laser therapy in the past and even that can’t cure it.it is something that has to be accepted you could have alopecia and that doesn’t necessarily mean round bald spots it can be diffused all over the scalp central and all different types of alopecia I’ve suffered for about 6 years hormones do play a role a lot as well x
You require Testosterone in the form of Testim gel from your gp but it's a struggle to get it coz you can only get it privately. See Professor Studd's website, he is the best Gynaecologist in the country xx
