My doctor prescribed me lutenyl for my endometriosis. I'm scared to take it though, because combined contraceptive pills have had a negative effect on my mood in the past. I know this one only has progesterone, but I was wondering whether anyone can tell me more about how such pills have affected your mood? I have to take it every day of the month.

Hi
Unfortunately what works for one doesn’t always work for another. Personally I found it helped emotions when I took it. It was only a couple of months in between diagnosis and lap. Then Zoladex after follow up for lap.
It’s weighing up pros and cons, speak to GP and you can stop taking it if need be.
Take care 🙂
My case is different, as I'm older and my endo was probably never as bad as yours: eg. the pill kept my pain/endo in check through most of my adult life). So, I don't know how useful this will be, but ...
I had a mirena coil inserted, in my mid-50s, as the pain had become increasingly dreadful, after I was 'made' to come off the pill at 50. The Mirena coil is progesterone only, and although it is a lower dose than in oral progesterone sources, it didn't alter my mood at all. In fact, I was just increasingly better and happier generally. Plus, by about (what would have been) my 4th month and period, I had no period at all, and absolutely no pain! I kept the mirena in for nearly 6 years, in total (it's okay to have it a bit longer when you are older) and it saw me safely through the menopause, and after those first few months in my mid-50s, I had no pain or reactions to it, at all, and no pain since it was removed.
What ever you decide, I do hope it works for you.
Take care.
I take a pretty high dose of norethindrone acetate, which is also progesterone only (I’m at high risk for stroke due to family history so I can’t take estrogen) and have an underlying mood disorder and haven’t seen a huge change in my mood. I do have more cystic acne on my back now that gets a little uncomfortable, and I had some migraines for the first couple weeks, but I haven’t had any bleeding for several months (took about 3 months to completely work and I had a Mirena coil for the first month or two) and my pain is under much better control. Mirena is also progesterone only and lower dose - I personally hated it and thought it made my cramps worse, but it can work well for a lot of people.
I’d say that progesterone only may be very different from a combined pill and if your doctor has recommended it, then it’s likely that the potential benefit of stopping your period may outweigh the risk. If you do have a lot of side effects, it shouldn’t be a hard medication to discontinue.
