Hi everyone, I'm new here so apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place etc.
I'm on the waiting list for a laproscopy after a gynae referral from my GP and this will be my first time having this procedure as they are searching for signs of endo.
My GP has offered me a progesterone only pill to help with the pain and heavy flow and this will have no break for a 'period'. I stupidly forgot to ask my GP, but if I take this pill and later in the year have a laproscopy, will taking the pill stop any lining growing so that the procedure will not find any signs of endo, even if I do have the condition? I can't seem to find an answer online but I know it isn't a straightforward question!
Thanks in advance for any help 😊

Hi, I don't think that taking the mini pill will make the endo go away temporarily, making it hard to see with a laparoscopy.
The mini pill is suggested, I think, just to reduce the endo period pain and perhaps slow the endo a bit, if lucky.
In general, with endo management, things that support health by slowing or shrinking the endomeyriosis-like tissue in places it doesn't belong are most welcome.
Thank you so much for your reply. Totally agree anything that lessens the pain is worth it's weight in gold. I just didn't want to potentially do anything accidental to obstruct diagnosis with the laproscopy. Thanks again 😊
Hi there. I’m in a similar situation to you. I have been referred by my GP to a gynaecologist. How long did you have to wait for your gynaecologist appointment please? I’ve heard it can take up to a year to be seen😕
Hey - I'm in a similar position, I was referred to a gynaecologist late August and had the appointment in January (5 months), they've agreed a laparoscopy is needed, but may not be before 2022. The waiting really sucks, a private consultation costs about £250, and a laparoscopy is £5000-£6000. If you've had an NHS referral then you won't be able to get health insurance to cover it, as it's classed as a pre-existing condition - hope this helps, but I'm sorry you have to wait so long too
I have to be honest and say everything has been very quick for me and I'm incredibly lucky and thankful. I finally had enough late December and had a telephone appointment with GP early Jan, then swabs and transvaginal ultrasound late Jan which showed signs of adenomyosis, referral to gynae following results and appointment was early March where he advised a laproscopy to search for endo as this can often accompany adeno apparently. Had second appointment today to sign consent forms etc. and I'm now waiting for the letter for the laproscopy appointment but he advised it would probably be after Sept the earliest.
My GP is a new female Dr and I do think that has helped (imo), also in my area we don't seem to have access to a NHS gynae clinic so all appointments go through the local private hospital so whilst this is a guess, that may be the reason everything is dealt with so quickly (?)
I'm so sorry you're having to wait so long to be seen. It's totally not fair. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
