Hi there progesterone only pill

Hi there I've had a disappointing doctors appointment, they won't let me have anymore norethisterone. They want me in for two more appointment's, one for a blood test to check my liver function. Then one with the nurse to discuss the progesterone only pill, as an alternative. They have said it's dangerous for someone of my age 49 to be on it for too long. Has anyone here any experience of this medication. As I'm very nervous of new medication to be honest. Many thanks x

Well, to stay on any hormonal pill for too long has its side effects. It varies from one to one but heart defects, osteoporosis, etc. may occur after a long time. Yeah, that's gonna be crazy, I don't want to think about it, it's only my first year of taking the pill to stop my periods (and the specialist was like it's forever). 😅😅😅😅 But I don't intend to take it forever (they're creating antibodies for endometriosis in the UK, let's hope it works).

I have Provera which is a progesterone only pill.

Honestly I’m not a fan at all due to various side effects but my consultant thinks this is the best for me to manage endometriosis

Hi Just to let you know, i have used desogestrel since 2018, using a double does it has successfully stopped my periods (occasional spotting from time to time).

I have found this has made my stage 4 ends now manageable and mostly pain free, i am also nearly 49 and not been informed it is unsafe to stay on. I intend to take until i go through menopause unless i am told any differently.

I'm on a double dose of the POP (cerazette) it has helped meenorously by stopping my bleeding completely. I now how so much less pain and my life is close to normal. I'm hoping I can keep going with it until I hit menopause. I started on one pill per day for about a year but then got bad breakthrough bleeding so my gynae said double the dose. It's been a huge help.

No problem, I can understand why you are scared.GPs often hand out medicine like sweets without checking whether they interact with anything else or if you have any conditions that cause contraindications. I guess because they are all very stressed and don’t have time to check. It really helped me but others have said it caused problems with their mood, I guess the best thing is give it a try . You can always stop if it doesn’t suit you. I decided it was better for me than taking loads of painkillers. Ideally I wouldn’t take anything but the pain was really disrupting my life. as far as I understand norethistone is a much higher dose than the mini pill. It’s usually taken as a one off to stop a period for a holiday. But it’s often prescribed by gyneas for endo but not long term. Noriday is the mini pil version with a lower dose or you could try desogestral or the coil. I’ve tried noriday, I was still bleeding every 21 days and for 8 days unfortunately. Luckily not as heavy as it had been. I’ve just switched to desogestral which I’ve heard is better for stopping ovulation and therefore periods, so seeing how that goes.

Have you tried the hormonal coil? That's localised progesterone. I recently switched from the combined pill to Mirena coil and it's helped me way more than I thought it would.

The chemical hormones make body disorders, and that can make cells be crazy which leads to cancer, and the progesterone is suspected according to the literatures and real cases, may God bless you
