Pain relief: First period after lap
Hi I am having the same issue. I am unable to sit on my right side as I am in so much pain.
Hi,
I have tried practically every painkiller out there. Over the counter-wise, co-codamaol and co-dydramol in particular are pretty good although I got some unfortunate side effects from them. On prescription, I can’t recommend amitriptyline enough. Amazing stuff. Doesn’t just mask the pain, stops how your body perceives it or something like that (chemistry isn’t really my area of expertise). It has to be said though, awful withdrawal when you come off them so might not be suitable just for period pain. I took them for endo day in day out so that was a little different for me. I’d also recommend tramadol on prescription. Never had any issues with side effects or withdrawal with those but heard different from other people. Everyone’s body chemistry is different so might be worth giving it a shot. On the more holistic side, olive oil and turmeric is great for inflammation. I know how this sounds, I was sceptical too but works like a treat. Definitely takes the edge off. Hope this helps, chin up darlin x
Thank you so much for your advice! The gp gave me some 30mg codeine with paracetamol and said tramadol was more addictive so reluctant to prescribe. I'm on sertraline which im trying to stop so maybe amitriptyline is a good idea, but then like you say hard to come off of. I've ordered some tumeric tablets and so grateful for you taking the time to write and give me these suggestions xx
hey lovely!
So sorry to hear you’re struggling. I highly recommend buying some Cocodamol 30/500mg over the counter or GP. You still basically just codeine but with added paracetamol as it enhances the pain relief properties of the codeine. As well as this, you could ask your GP for some nefopam. This is another stronger painkiller yet it’s not an opioid therefore can’t get addicted to it. Your GP might favour that over anything stronger than those two. Also I take amitriptyline to prevent my chronic migraines but I’ve heard it can help with this sort of scenario too. Also if you ask for some Naproxen, it’s a stronger anti inflammatory than ibuprofen.Hope this helps and you manage to get sorted!
