Tranexamic acid

What’s your experience of Tranexamic Acid? I’m currently on week 5 of heavy period after coming off everything a year ago. Had coil removed and stopped Zoladex injections to give my body a break from over 10 years of drugs. I wish I hadn’t. The pain I thought was quite intense is nothing compared to what I’m feeling now. With hospitals unavailable at minute I’ve had 2 over the phone appointments with my gp who prescribed the above to stop the bleeding. I’m on day 3 of taking 6 pills a day and it’s not working. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello, I am sorry to hear your going through this. I suffered for ten years and I had a histerectomy last year. However, I am surprised to hear tranexamic acid doesn’t work for you... it was the only thing that saved my life a few times.. had blood transfusions and iron IV s a few times because of blood loss :( Are you maybe taking some supliments that are blood thiners? Just wanted to say that I did take tranexamic acid every month for a couple of years and did not have problems or side effects from it ... hope it will work for you... good luck.

Yes, the hysterectomy cured all my problems and I am pain and period free... I was almost dead before... however, I have no kids and that's a problem I have to deal with but the hysterectomy saved and changed my life.

Tranexamic acid has been hit and miss for me over the years. For me I find it stops the bleeding almost completely then when I stop the tablets the bleeding comes back worse as if the tablets were just holding it off til I stop them. I have some in all the time just in case I have to leave the house for an appointment or something at the time of heavy bleeding but I would never take it if I didn’t absolutely have to. I’ve heard it works wonders for some. But like most things it’s not great for me. Hope you get some relief soon it really is so rubbish feeling like this. X 😔

yes I also had mixed results on T. Acid.. it would mostly stop the sudden flooding but like you say it would come back a few days later after having taken my max 4 days in a row . But it did allow me to worry a bit less at work . Could not rely on it completely but it helped a bit but yes , in a ‘holding things off till later’. Kind of way! Have ended up in Prostap now as the doctor said that will improve things for me until op . I didn’t really have any side effects from the Tranaxemic so give it a go .. at least you can stop it if it’s not for you
