Tranexamic acid does it stop ovulation do... - Endometriosis UK
Tranexamic acid does it stop ovulation do I need prescription
No it does not have any effect on fertility- I took it when I was TTC. I think you might need a prescription my GP prescribed it alongside Mefenamic acid which is a painkiller to ease period pain they often prescribe both together. Also if your periods are very heavy have you had your iron level checked? My heavy periods caused me to become anaemic. Sorry you are suffering heavy periods are very grim xxx
Ok what does menfamic acid do I’m really suffering it’s like losing a baby all over again the amount of blood my last period I ended up in a and e and my inflammation markers were up I had to be put on a drip it’s awful I think I can get it privately online I think I need this and no one has ever told me about it
Poor you I’ve had periods which were so painful I ended up in hospital endo is such a horrible disease ☹️
Mefenamic acid is anti inflammatory pain killer designed to help ease period pain if you take it with tranexamic acid if your periods should hopefully be less heavy & painful. It definitely helped mine to be more manageable!
Definitely get your GP to check your iron anaemia too xxx
Hello. I don't think it effects fertility its used to treat bleeding, including heavy periods.
Yes you do need a prescription to be able to get it
Hello,
Warning: This contains some graphic content regarding period symptoms.
I was initially prescribed Mefenamic Acid primarily for pain but it can also help with bleeding. It didn't for me. I was later prescribed Tranexamic Acid for bleeding. At the time I was bleeding more often than I wasn't and part of that time (not every day bleeding but stretches within them which I am guessing would have been my 'normal' period time if I was having 'normal' length periods) I was sitting on a towel at home because I was passing such large clots and bleeding so heavy that within 30 minutes I would bleed through two over lapped pads and a tampon.
It took some time for the Tranexamic Acid to kick in (in fact, I was sure it wasn't working as it took a good month or two to fully work) but it serious subsided the amount I was bleeding, the frequency, and the size and amount of blood clots. I do still sometimes have excessively long periods but I don't bleed near as much as I use to. I now pass the amount of blood I would identify as being in line with what a 'normal' period would have been like for me prior to the excessive bleeding becoming a constant, reoccurring symptom.
You have probably gathered this, but a prescription is required. It would be a good idea to have your iron levels checked as well.
I never actually posed the question of fertility but as I have continued to have periods I would presume it did not affect it directly. It isn't a consideration for me. Best to double check with your doctor when discussing options and whether the Tranexamic Acid would be best for you.
I wish you luck!
