Tranexamic acid?

Hello everyone, how are you? 🙂

So I have just been prescribed tranexamic acid for my suspected endometriosis. We are not 100% sure if I have it but I do have a lot of symptoms. I was just wondering if anybody else had been prescribed this and what were your thoughts?

Thank you so much,

E. x

Hi I was prescribed this for heavy bleeding but it didn’t work for me. Are they investigating further to see if you have endometriosis/adenomyosis? X

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it! At the moment they’ve done an uterus ultrasound and that’s come back clear so they are reluctant to do anymore as I’m 17. I do keep pushing as my menstrual cycle is so debilitating.

Thanks again,

Eleanor x

Hi Eleanor i would definitely push for more tests, if you feel something isn’t right in your own body then you are probably right. I was the same as having lots of symptoms, knew I was ill but I just didn’t know what illnesses I had (I have adeno, endo, fibromyalgia and bowel disorder). Find a good GP who will listen to you xx 💕

Do push, there are gynaecologists that specialise in endo for teenagers. I understand their reluctance as with any surgery you get scar tissue. I’m beginning to wish I had done something sooner.

Maybe suggest an MRI, they can see more on this.

Oh thank you, I never knew that!! I am definitely going to push as it has been going on for too long now! Thank you so much for your reply :)

They prescribe it for heavy bleeding. I initially thought it wasn't helping but it seemed to take approx a couple months to be fully effective. I had a lot of break through bleeding and my period was more frequent than it should be so I was prescribed it daily. Sometimes it is only prescribed for the days you are menstruating.

As for not having a diagnosis, I would recommend pushing for one. If it is endometriosis the growths can continue to grow, spread, and cause further issues the longer they are left.

Hello Missy! Thank you ever so much for your reply. I really appreciate your help for this situation. Yes I’ve been prescribed it for the days of menstruation.

I most certainly will because I feel like it has been going on for far too long and I’ll just hope they actually listen to me!!

Thanks again 😊

Be persistent. It can be hard to push back, but it is necessary more often than not. It is ridiculous how many women continue to suffer because their GPS or gynaecologists are not thorough in their approach to women's health care.

Good luck!

Hi, I was prescribed this too, but this is temporary whilst waiting for Laparoscopy so they can diagnose, treat and/or remove if need be. I would push to discuss further with a gyno if you’re unsure about your circumstance. You can’t really be sure without the right procedures to properly diagnose.

The tranexamic acid helped with heavy bleeding, which also slightly improved pain relief. Or at least made it slightly bearable.

I am going through the early steps and have run round circles and many doctors for years to finally get back on track for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

So far the Tranexamic acid and Mefenamic acid help ease symptoms. It’s not a resolution.

I hope this helps!

Oh bless you!! That must’ve been awful but I’m glad you’re on the right track for a diagnosis!!

Okay perfect, thank you so much again for all your advice and help!! :)

I had tranxemic acid for heavy bleeding and it worked really well for me, I took two tablets three times a day and it would make things a lot more manageable.

Hi! Oo thank you so much, that’s very reassuring. The drs have prescribed the same amount for me so that’s good to hear!! 😊

Hopefully it works for you too!

It also helped me after a very big post partum bleed, and after I’d had some precancerous cells removed I bled really badly so had it on a drip and it was a life saver... tranxemic acid is a favourite of mine now 🤣

Mefenamic acid is also really good for menstrual pain relief xx
