Hi Jane,

I’d like to say it’s the best thing I’d ever done and wish I could have had it done sooner but the logistics of the nhs it seems to take 2/4 years of tests and scans to get to the end result of surgery and due to the time it took I ended up having to have abdominal surgery instead of keyhole due to the size of my fibroids and my uterus because I had adenomyosis as well.

It’s a tough thing to go through I felt like I’d been hit by a truck once I could get out of bed due to sickness on day 3, don’t believe anything you see on google regarding recovery, it will be about 3/4 months before you start to feel slightly normal, prior to this you do forget until you move then you remember you’ve had major surgery. I went back to work at 5 weeks biggest mistake I’ve ever made, I felt ok so thought I can sit at my desk ok but it’s the whole thing about getting dressed and forgetting not to lift or rush around and you end up in pain again which is your body telling you to rest again.

Unfortunately I’ve ended up with fibrous band of scar tissue the width of my scar which is attached to my insides 😩 so waiting for keyhole surgery to release it so I can try and lead a normal life again as had op in March 2019.

Just take it very steady after even if you think wow this is ok I feel ok, don’t push yourself, you only get once chance to heal properly. Good luck it’s definitely amazing to not have your horrendous symptoms anymore and that’s what is important, get booked in as you might have a bit of a wait once you’ve agreed it with your consultant. Take care ☺️Xx

Brilliant thank you for your comments just want to feel normal again although maybe after the op menopause will kick in and I will feel naf but anything better than enormous amounts of blood loss thanks again for your time x

Yes you definitely will feel much better once you’ve had it done, I had my ovaries removed my consultant asked me just before my op and I didn’t know what to say and she said they shrivel up and stop working within 3 years so would be better to remove so I don’t have any problems later with them so I agreed.

I wear the hrt patch to cancel out the symptoms and it’s a game changer for me

I do wish I kept my ovaries on reflection as I feel everything starts to fade without them I often say I lost my mojo 🥴 and I also didn’t realise a friend of a friend who had a vaginal hysterectomy 16 years ago has just started getting the insomnia and night sweats and is beside herself with tiredness and she kept her ovaries, so I think they last a lot longer than I was informed. I would definitely keep them if I was given the option again as I just turned 48 when I had the op and I was peri menopause, so they still had life in them still if you know what I mean, now I feel like I take something for one problem it causes and something for another problem and so on.

Do your research about life without them before you decide.

Glad I can help ☺️ X

Don’t want to jump on post but be careful having adhesion surgery they can grow back twice as quick and worse for it only if you desperately need it

Hi unfortunately I do need the op I’m 15 months post op with the same pain as I had after the op if I done to much, I think they are going to release the adhesions from the fibrous band of scar tissue.

I can’t leave it because I still can’t do what I call normal day to day things like shopping, long walks or most exercises, so not good, I do think it was my own fault for doing exercise far too soon 🥴

But thanks for your advice, it’s good to share xx

I’m so sorry about that my friend also did too much too soon and damaged her stomach after c section luckily she could still do things normally but her scar tissue forced its way in and looked like it was all stuck and indented hope things get sorted for you soon x

You know thats just like mine 🥴 sounds like that’s what can happen, if you don’t rest enough, I’ve also got a hernia in the same area but I didn’t even know I had that until they scanned me. I’d love for them to take the scar tissue away but I know that’s probably a no no and expect they will release them more like, which hopefully will make me pain free 👍

Thanks Hun for sharing that info xx

Hi can’t give you my own experience but my mum had fibroids and was always loosing a lot of blood to point of wearing nappies hysterectomy was best thing for her.she still has one ovary.also watched something on tv and the fibroids never stopped and she ended up with a hysterectomy as your near menopause I don’t think the side effects should be too bad in regards to hot flushes etc they do say the later you have one the better in regards to side effects

Honestly the best thing I ever did for my health (mental and physical) was to have a hysterectomy - keyhole, uterus removed only. It changed my life!! Really don't know how I ever coped with all the endo issues previously - they all just went away in a flash and my asthma subsided greatly too.... I have recently found out I have Mast Cell Activiation Syndrome which could have been instrumental in both of these conditions...

I'm glad you put this up! I'm awaiting hysterectomy and loads of people have said what a difference it makes but I'm just weighing up the adhesions side of things so good to hear that it's been positive for people just such a long recovery I can't see my husband taking over my side of things haha that's the thing that's causing me the most questions 🤣
