Hi

I was wondering if anyone has tried ‘endo diets’? I’ve had a recent flare on of my endo! I was just wondering if anyone has tried eliminating certain foods or Tried some of the diets & if they have any recommendations?

Thanks

Hello Cat2611 :)

I'm in the process of completely changing my diet to an endo diet. Within that investigation I have found the stricter I am with it, the less pain I experience. Which is hard and frustrating because my staple meals always involved pasta, tomatoes, cheese and I drank caffeinated drinks like my life depended on it.

I have found this book to be a great help:

"Endometriosis: A key to healing through nutrition" by Dian Shepperson Mils & Michael Vernon (apologies if you already know the book, please don't read the rest of my post if so because I'm going to hype it no end).

The book is written by a Nutritionalist and a Scientist, so it's got the cold hard facts, but gives things like meal plans, advice on what supplements to take to combat things like depression, insomnia, hot flashes of pain, etc. It gives you shopping lists to follow, what food to look for on a weekly shop. It's affirmed some of my own discoveries and I honestly couldn't recommend it higher**.

To quickly sum it up it says:

- no dairy

- no wheat

- no red meat

- no processed meat

- no citrus

- no tomatoes

- no caffeine

- no alcohol

- no processed sugars

- no trans-fats

- up your fatty fish intake

- up your Omega 3 intake, reduce your Omega 6***

- other things I can't remember!

** A quick disclaimer: it is a wordy and lengthy book. At times, I found it made me feel quiet overwhelmed and depressive because it is an entire system and life change. Or was for me. So please don't be deterred by its beginning or initial message! It left me with active tools to empower and has freed some of the weight of living with endo off of my shoulders. I hope it does the same for you.

*** I can't remember which one you should reduce or increase, so that may be the other way around/don't take my word fully on that one.

Whatever you find/choose, I wish you endless good luck with it!

Stay safe,

Aegh x

I found the anti-inflammatory diet help especially if I did not eat dairy or red meat. Coffee was also a problem for me as well. I bought a really helpful book with loads of recipes called Recipes and Diet Advice for Endometriosis by Carolyn Levett who is a nutritionist and used to have endo. I got it on Amazon and the diet advice is really helpful about what not to eat and it has loads of recipes, which even my family seem to like.

Can you remember why the book says no tomatoes?ive not heard that one but I’ve heard people tend to compensate with tomatoes and realise they are allergic

Apologies for the very belated reply!

I read it during a book called "Beating Endo - How to reclaim your life from Endometriosis" by Iris Kerin Orbuch MD and Amy Stein DPT.

(It was one of the ingredients they added to a woman's treatment/nutritional plan).

Like you, I have heard to tomatoes but not found a source to say no. This is the first book I've found to have mentioned it. X
