I am now 4 weeks on from a hysterectomy, bilateral Salpingectomy and removal of endo. I am still absolutely shattered all the time which i expected to a certain degree but i also am still in lots of pain which can be sharp and severe at times.
Can anyone shed any light on how long the pains last?

Hi I hope you are well. I had a hysterectomy two years ago and I was in alot of pain for a good few week's. My pain was due to having an infection from the catheter (I had 3 infections in a space of 6 weeks ) if the pain is really bad i would ring your surgery and ask for a call back from a gp asap. You shouldn't be in pain after a month, maybe a bit of discomfort but not severe pain. Rest is also really important as doing thing's even little jobs around the house can cause pain. I hope you manage to get some pain relief take care 💛
Thanks. I spoke to my GP last week as i suspected i had an infection from the catheter. I was prescribed antibiotics which i have now finished. These did help with some of the symptoms. Maybe i need a further course if these have not fully cleared any infection. Thanks for the advice I'll give my GP another ring. Take care 💜
I had to have three different lots of antibiotics because the first two lots i was given didn't help in fact when I got the first lot after 5 days he rang me and told me I needed stronger antibiotics and he also gave me oramorph because the pain was so bad. It does take time to recover so rest is very important. If the pain is really bad i would ring your gp again and you need pain relief. Oramorph was the only thing that eased the pain. Make sure you ring your gp again. Take care my lovely 💛💛
Hi sorry to hear you are in pain. I haven't had one yet mine is still coming but I heard it takes 6 - 8 weeks for everything to come right. I think if you are a lot of pain I would speak with your Doctor or GP as there may be something else going on. I hope things get better, take some self care and rest if you are able xx
Hi there, I'm sorry you are feeling bad. I had endo removal, bilateral salpingectomy, multiple adhesion removal (bowel, bladder, ovary) with mesh applied to bowel, and D&C mid- December. What a mouthful we all seem to have! I agree with everyone else, whilst we can expect pain and some discomfort for 6-8 weeks, after that, it should really be back to the discomfort end for you, but you may expect some fatigue etc. for longer. My biggest advice, know your body, listen to your body and don't feel like a nag, if you want someone to check something for you, if you think ultrasounds or more bloods or a scan is needed, push!! I used to be a believer in doctor knows best, stay quiet, but I had some challenges getting to bottom of my problem (agony daily with no return to work yet 12 weeks later). I feel like I may be blacklisted at hospital now lol, but I figured out a problem that was missed and brushed off as 'slow recovery'. No apology from consultant, just 'well we have you sorted now'. Do take care, I'm not saying at all that you have a bigger problem going on, but don't feel you can't be pushy if you need to, it's your health, important now more than ever! Best wishes, be kind to your body xx
Hi Mokkamoo, I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and removal of ovaries and cervix last May.
Please be very cautious of the 6 week recovery. I was 33 now 34, very fit and active and it took me the full12 weeks. Getting back to the gym and day to day activity was a much slower journey than I would have liked. I have had 4 major laparoscopies previously n thought I knew what I was facing. Unfortunately the first few weeks were easier as you are more careful and restrictive.
Please dont take this negatively, I can imagine how much you are desperate to get back to normal, I only mean please be kind to yourself and every time you want to push yourself, give it another day, or two, before you do. I've had no pain or complications since mine, just a little extra water retention and my stomach still swells occasionally depending on activity and stress. If I can help with any specific questions going forward please feel free to message me privately!
I am post partial Hysterectomy about 6 months now. I still have my cervix and my right ovary, I had my left ovary removed as it was adhered to the front of the uterus wall. Part of the bowels were adhered to the uterus as well and were 'shaved' off not re-sectioned. These adhesions did not show on the MRI. The incision was a c-section (bikini cut) type incision. I had one previously (from myomectomy which is how I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis in 2005) and my doc re-opened the the incision.
I had a 10 days supply of Panadeine F and Arcoxia after release from the hospital. My doctor told me she put the anitbiotics inside me so I did not have to get any. Also I was given morphine and oxytocin in the hospital for pain. That 10 day supply was not enough, and I asked my doc to use the pain meds I used pre-surgery for my horrid cramps- Olfen , Buscopn Plus, Panadol Extra, Voltaren suppositories. She gave the ok for these and she had me come in for about 4 visits post surgery to see how the incision was healing and I could email or call her to ask any questions.
The pain from surgery I would say subsided after about 2 1/2 months. I had some minor discomfort for another month. Fatigue lasted about 4 months. You have to take it easy for a while and get help for household chores if you can, if not do what you can and then rest. The catheter does cause some pain and discomfort & I had Endo scarring removed from my bladder wall also so that was another source of pain, that lasted for about 2 1/2 months. It is way better now.
The bowel movements after the surgery were hard to say the least and I needed to use an enema suppository for a while, esp the first BM. That was really challenging. To help with constipation after surgery, I walked- in the house, which my doc recommended for prevention of blood clots also and ate lots of steamed veggies and meats. Stay away from veggies that cause gas that is just another pain you don't need. I had carrots, ochro, christophene, potato, pumpkin (steamed). Also salad greens and tomato and cucumber. Try to get some fruit in your diet also. I ate like this for about 3 months post surgery, very little seasoning (onion and garlic). Less salt also. I had lots of green tea or any other tea I could have with no milk and I had it as hot as I could to help with gas and bowel movements. I still eat the steamed veggies to this day and I think I will continue, but I can tolerate more seasoning in the food now.
I still have some very mini periods where I have some spotting and unfortunately I have PMS & migraines. The symptoms are still relatively less than pre-surgery. Also I have pain with ovulation that still happens. Other than that, the pain associated with surgery is basically gone, I don't have a lot of pain or discomfort in the incision, maybe a little tug now and then. I have started cooking, cleaning, and lifting over 10 lbs for about 2 months now. Before it was very very tiring and I had to rest after cooking and washing wares. The best part is I don't have that extreme bloating (still some moderate) that I had pre-surgery and no heavy bleed, no severe cramps, no stabbing pains in pelvis, no pains going down the legs. Still have my libido and my natural lube although sometimes it could be better, using the vibrator was a bit uncomfortable at first but each time gets better. I have no partner so...
