I got my date for a laparoscopy for 6the April bit worried and scared any advice from anyone that's had it?
Any advice?: I got my date for a... - Endometriosis UK
Any advice?
Honestly it is such a simple
Procedure so don’t stress about it at all. Don’t worry or be scared - u will be in and out within the day x
I had mine in September... I would suggest that you make sure you pack comfortable clothes for travelling home nice stretchy underwear/trousers so it's not uncomfortable for your tummy. Same with once you are home nice comfortable Pj's as you'll need them for the first week or so
I found a cushion was a great help to have under the seatbelt so didn't get the pressure from the belt on my tummy.
Stock up on peppermint tea to help with the gas afterwards and I found Charcoal tablets from Holland and Barrett really helped with the bloated feeling as the sooner you release the gas the more comfortable you will feel as it will pull on the stitches.
Listen to your body if you are tired sleep, it's the best healer.
I know it's scary but just try to think it will be over soon and hopefully you will benefit from this surgery.
If I can be of any other help please just ask. xx
Is this your first diagnosis Option?
I had mine in October 2019 and everything pinkprincess22 has mention is dang on.
That was the mane thing I suffered with the gas.
Hey, I hope it has gone well and easy if u have already had this done.
I am in a similar position, I have my lap booked soon. quite scared honestly.
If it is done when you aren’t on your period, is the endo still there and visible? I’m scared they won’t find it because it’s not the right time if that makes sense. Comments look reassuring so I hope u are feeling better
The first date I was given I thought due, I was told it didn’t matter either way.
The date of op ended up a week later and period decided to follow suit. 🤣
Never been able to tell when though.
Easy to say, I’m sure you’ll be ok, I was scared stiff and wasn’t any where as bad on the day and went smoothly. Try not to worry too much
Can you have procedure while on your monthly?
It’s easy to freak yourself out reading stuff online - don’t take too much notice as every procedure and everyone’s body is different.
I was completely unprepared for mine as I’d just assumed it would be similar to a colonoscopy so I hadn’t even booked the day after off work (let alone 4 weeks as some people do) so had a mild panic the night before after googling things, but it was unwarranted in my case.
I went in at lunchtime and was home by 6pm. I felt a bit out of it and pretty tired for 36hrs but was back at work after 4 days and did a long haul flight (18hrs) 10 days after.
I would say to take things easyish in the weeks following (even if you feel fine) to help your wounds heal (mine got infected 3 weeks after as I’d not been very careful and knocked them a few times). Was easily sorted with antibiotics but probably could have avoided it!
I’d be interested to know what type of surgery everyone has had - excision or ablation? And what was your experience of this?
