Hi MamaofFurBabies
I'm pleased to hear you now have a surgery date! I'm sure lots of people will reach out with their own experiences and suggestions - in the meantime you may want to download our 'Having a Hysterectomy Information Pack'. Page 5 onwards contains loads of information about preparation and recovery from this surgery. You can download the information pack from endometriosis-uk.org/surger...
Wishing you all the very best x
Hello! I’m so pleased you got your date through.
The best advice I got on here was to buy loose comfy clothes a size or two up. Dungarees are perfect as they don’t have a waist band. I bought a maternity pair a size up from asos and lived in them, along with a big chunky jumper dress and a lounge suit from m&s (which I wore for months!) I was advised to set out a few different outfits and put them somewhere easy to reach. That was a genius suggestion as you don’t need to ask for help or keep bending down.
I wish I’d have invested in a better pair of dungarees (Lucy and Yak come highly recommended) as it’s going to take a long time for the tummy to recover. Although I’m active now, my body has been through a lot and it needs some tlc, not skinny jeans! I did underestimate that part. I naively thought that at 12 weeks I’d be back In my usual clothes. It just takes time. Everybody is different and recovers at their own pace but we do need to recognise the huge thing we’ve just done.
There are a few really good resources on you tube to help you recover. Videos that explain how to get in and out of bed, how to lay with a pillow etc. I would also recommend researching a pelvic floor exercise programme. I did Vibrant Pelvc health’s free kegal camp workouts the month before and I’ve just completed their paid for lift programme. She gives such good tips on lifestyle, I’ve found it really helpful. My stomach now looks so much better and I feel stronger from the inside. I’m 7 months post op now and so glad I did it.
Best of luck with everything, if you have any specific questions, feel free to DM me x
Are you having your ovaries removed and do you know what stage/severity your endo is?
Hi, I'm 15 months post hysterectomy, everything removed no HRT and feeling pretty good, much better than with endo. One of the best things for me after my surgery was having a little pillow to put on my tummy in the car or when I had to cough, laugh, etc. It was kind of my "safety" pillow, even when I first started walking outside, it was just comforting to have something buffer that sensitive area. Take it easy on foods the first couple days after surgery, taking stool softener was helpful. Short walks around the house as soon as you're able and increase as you feel better.
Since I had my ovaries removed too, I started feeling menopausal symptoms maybe a month or two after surgery so for the hot flashes I had a fan in my bedroom and cooling towels. Happy to answer any questions about my experience. Best of luck with your surgery!
Thank you. That's really helpful and i am pleased to hear you're doing well!I will add a pillow to my list. 😍
I had a pregnancy pillow, the really long ones and that was amazing, jumper dresses, and some tena pants for the first couple of days as you won't be able to move very quickly!
I am 6 years post op and feeling great now.
Ahh so happy for you! Keep us updated on how you get on.I'm still waiting for mine.
I read a really good tip that someone mentioned on here- put a bit of Vicks on any gas pain spots u get, like sholder pain! It's meant to really help.
Peppermint tea too 💖
How long have you been waiting :-(Hopefully not too much longer!
Goofd tip.... I can half remember that pain from my laps but i am sure i have underestimated it again
