My hysterectomy is complete!

Hi warriors! I am day 3 post total hysterectomy and endometriosis removal. I am still in hospital but the pain has been less than my monthly’s and that is with very similar pain medication. The staff have been amazing and I am so grateful to my surgeon who is simply amazing. I had a spinal with a general so I was not groggy after the surgery and I feel so relieved. I shall be using body identical estridol gel as and when needed. So far I feel so relieved and grateful and hopeful. Best wishes to you all and I shall keep posting to share my journey. You look amazing to say you’ve just had surgery, here’s hoping you continue to be pain free and recover. How long do you have to stay in hospital have they said ?

Congratulations you i was so relieved when I finally had mine on the 3rd September and I feel so ‘normal’ now. I’m still struggling with fatigue at times but pain has pretty much gone. I get occasional days of stomach pain but in comparison to before it’s nothing. Everyone said take it easy and I did but when I started feeling better I got a bit carried away. I was surprised how exhausted I was 3 months later but it does get easier and easier!

Thank you I think it’s a smile of relief as I’ve been wanting to have the surgery for a few years now. My daughter shall be taking care of me she has been amazing and is herself a endo warrior - it’s early days but I am positive and very grateful for the amazing NHS staff here they have been so kind and caring.

Thank you - I think we can forget that a hysterectomy is major surgery especially when I read how many women are sent home after only one day of hospital care. I was not well enough to go home after one day and I’m still in hospital recovering. I think reality hit home with me today that my body has been through so much and we must take care of ourselves. I hope you are ok?

One day is far too short IMO. It’s hard to stay in hospital isn’t it, but it’s where you’re best for the time being. Home will be hard enough when you go back. I’m 2 weeks post op (hence me being awake at this time), but doing okay. Thanks for asking.

I think that reality will hit you a few more times yet, when you try and do things and you realise you’re only so many weeks post op and should probably taking it easy! X

So Have you had a hysterectomy too? Yes I was all set to go home yesterday until I had a funny turn and my BP was very low. There are so many aspects to a hysterectomy that so many women seem to just take in their stride. From the little stinging injections each day to the embarrassing wind ha ha. I have to say it’s a relief to have had the surgery but it’s no walk in the park that’s for sure and when my friend said to me oh it’s just like having your tonsils out I must admit I could right now give her a piece of my mind ha ha ha

No I didn’t, I had endo and one ovary removed. Everyone is different. It’s hard to do, but try not to compare yourself to others and their journey/recovery. What!! Other people just don’t get it do they x

I must share this with you before I forget, so in 2014 I had one ovary removed and endo treated like yourself and when I had my hysterectomy this week they advised me I had both ovaries?? Work that one out? I’m not joking I have the Paperwork saying ovary removed and a polyp and endo and yet when I was woken up the recovery nurse said you didn’t just have one ovary you had both! Wow 😮

Your so right regarding recovery it is such a personal thing. I’ve just been advised I’m not going home today as my BP is low and they think I may have a urine infection.

So hopefully tomorrow, I hope you receive some relief from your surgery and keep in touch x

You look amazing and well done. I remember the feeling following my hysterectomy and whilst feeling like I had the surgery it was most definitely so much better than I felt pre surgery . I am 10 weeks post op- and most days I move forward

But on a couple (like when I got infection) a slight delay in wellbeing). I still feel fatigued but that I think is because I am doing almost what I would have been for my Norma day to day life. I am glad you are signed off for three months - I kept getting 2 weeks, 2 weeks , 2 weeks and this was causing me some anxiety as I was in no way ready to go back to work at any of these intervals . I did one days work last week and was shattered (2 hours drive and full day at court) and I have a full day tomorrow . This is plenty for now . Not sure if you had your ovaries removed - if so my advice would be to discuss potential hrt with your consultant as in my case, the GP was not confident with hrt and tried to prescribe me anti depressants. He ended up telephoning the gyno at my request. Anyway, happy Sunday and I look forward to hearing your recovery 😁x

Hi thank you for your reply, ok so if you have any advice please fire away...... it’s day 4 and I am feeling exhausted I slept for 12 hours last night and I am still in hospital as my itinerary showed a slight infection. I’m already on body identical hrt im using gel, both ovaries were removed and endo too. Did you have an issues with a fuzzy head almost like a head cold but without the cold? I have realised what a major surgery we have had and I’m going to listen to my body instead of trying to be wonder women. I’m still in pain but it’s nothing like endo pain. Thank you for your input x

wow you look amazing! I'm going in for mine on 3rd Jan, I am nervous but seeing how well you look as made me more positive. They have told me i'll only be in 1 night, but we'll see.

Hi I’ve just home today and yes the standard within the nhs is 1 night which I find mind blowing. I was in for 5 nights and I’m shuffling around like a little old lady ha ha. The pain has been nothing like endo pain and I met 2 nurses on the ward who had both had the same surgery a year ago and never looked back. They both said do not push yourself even if you feel ok you must be careful. Good luck on the 3rd and keep us posted on your journey x
