Looking for advice..

Hey guys, I am looking for a bit of advice. I've been suffering with endometriosis symptoms for a very long time but never knew what it was. I went to the doctors this morning and they said it is very likely to be endometriosis but they are not concerned about removing it because I'm still young and I am not trying to conceive, all they want to do is control the pain by putting me on the coil and giving me painkillers and will look into surgery when we are trying for a baby. I am only 22 but I am in a serious long term relationship and I would like to settle down and have children in the next few years. What if hiding the symptoms of this ruins my chances of having children? Surely if they found it early enough they would need to try and remove it? Hiding it with painkillers doesn't stop it, it could still grow and become worse which could lessen my chances of having children? Am I being stupid or should i try and push the doctors for a better treatment option? This is all new to me and my head is all over the place.

Hi CL05, hope all is well.

I would strongly advise going to a different DR for a second opinion if you aren't happy, there is no way to identify endometriosis without having a diagnostic laparoscopy.

Have they referred you to see a gynaecologist?

I got diagnosed with endometriosis in 2016, I spent years (10 to be exact) letting DRs brush me off with painkillers and no diagnosis untill i got fed up and went for a second opinion, after finding a good dr i got referred to see a gynaecologist then a few months later had a diagnostic laparoscopy to confirm endo. i am now waiting to see a specialist to remove my endometriosis.

I like you was unsure of wether to try the coil as im 24 and want kids in the near future, but a few months ago i decided to give it a go and honestly it was one of the best decisions i have ever made. it was very simple to have it put in and i've been told its just as easy to have removed.

im no longer having periods and i actually have quite a lot of pain free days.

Obviously the side effects are different for everyone but again its worth trying.

Sorry for the long post, I hope this helps you a little and if you need to always feel free to DM me :)

Thank you so much for your reply. No they haven't, just told me they can stop the pain with a coil and they aren't interested in anything else until I go back with infertility problems. I am considering the coil but I will definitely go and see someone else about this and get that second opinion. All I'm really asking for is the laparoscopy just to confirm it and to find out if its severe or not. Hopefully I can get somewhere. I am glad it's worked out for you 😊

Hi, I feel for you and totally understand why your head is all over the place.. I was 19 when I first started to think that the pain and the heavy periods I was suffering wasn’t quite right so off to the doctors I went, then somehow I ended up under the family planning clinic and they tried to sort thing by trying numerous pills and injections none of which worked !

I then at 23 when I was on holiday was admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis?? When they went in to treat it realised it wasn’t and in fact was endometriosis! I had never heard of it!!!!

So if I was you I would push for a referral to a gynaecologist and speak to them, they might try different hormonal treatments first before a laperoscopy but until you talk to them you won’t know and atleast you’re under a specialist xx skip lots and lots of years and lots of treatments I’m glad to say I have two beautiful children 17 and 12. I will add to it though that I have also had hysterectomy in 2016 and up to date I’m currently recovering from the removal of my ovaries.. a long story I know I’m sorry but honestly I would as for a referral sooner rather than later and push for it .

Xxx Hope things work out for you

Thank you so much for sharing your story with me! I will definitely push this further. I am so glad to hear about your children, all I've been thinking about all day is that I may not have one of my own. Its soul destroying! I'm glad there is some hope though and I will continue to nag my doctors until something is done! Xx
