Recovery from 'investigation only' Laparoscopy

Hi Ladies, I'm interested to hear how quickly you recovered from a lap that was investigation only?

My first lap I had a lot removed and took a good 5-6 weeks to feel even vaguely normal. My journey hasn't been easy the last 9 months and having been through the NHS complaints process I am now at BSGE Winchester. They have my MRI results and have decided due to complexity to do an investigation only laparoscopy first to decide next course of action (hoping full hysterectomy) with the right surgeons. I'm looking to gauge how quick recovery is when they just go in and look, I have a holiday booked 4 weeks after to Cyprus and its not just any holiday, it's our 10 year wedding anniversary in the hotel we got married in which is closing end of season.

Any other holiday I would cancel but Endo takes so much from me, I really don't want it to take this as well.

Hospital said they think il be fine in time for then, but I don't feel convinced 😞

Hi Adele,

I totally empathise.... just celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary and only just made it out for dinner!

Last September I had a diagnostic lap and flew to Ibiza 5 weeks later. Ok I wasn't great (they removed adheshions/Endo on several areas etc and sent areas for biopsy) but, the holiday was much more relaxing than being at home!

I still had a lovely week's break. No problem at all with flying...my scars were not very visible. We did lots of nice walks, drank cocktails and watched sunsets! Perfect!

The previous year I'd had a total hysterectomy and have had several laps. I've often had breaks 4-5 weeks after surgery and found it helped with recuperation.

I have another lap on August 20th and all being well we will be off on our travels 4-5 weeks later. Endo ain't beating me either!

Everyone is different. Please do take good care of yourself. If you take good care of yourself in the recovery period you should be able to fly. My consultant fully supported it and the NHS guidelines also say it's safe as it's keyhole surgery.

Wishing you a very Happy Anniversary!

Best wishes,Clare

Congrats on 20 years ! I hope we get there as well. Many thanks for the lovely positive reply. I'm so sorry you've had so many procedures, and still having laps after a hysterectomy 😓 sending you hugs x

Mine was investigative only and I went back to work after 1 and a half weeks for staggered returns, as I didn't feel up to being out of the house for more than a few hours, but I had complications with my bladder so without that I might have felt up to it!

I would guess you will be fine. I had investigation only lap and was basically ok within a week. After 4 weeks I was walking miles and lifting for work. When you are used to pain you are used to pain 😂
