Multiple laparoscopy - question.

Hi Ladies,

I was just wondering, those of you out there who have had multiple laparoscopies, did your surgeon go through the same incisions from your first lap??

I had a lap for my appendix a few years ago and I’ve recently been told I’m going to need another laparoscopy due to needing further investigation for unexplained pain and I just wondered as I’ve not yet asked..

xx

Hey, I’ve had 2 laps within 4 months and the guy who did the second lap said that he would use the same incisions the second time round if they were in the right place. Although he kind of went just under one and the belly button one he went through half of it and extended it rather than it being completely through my belly button it started at the middle and went down further than it

Don’t know if it will be the same for you as you’ve had longer in between and if the first one was for something different they may need to go in at different places. They usually go through the belly button and on the left side I think although when I had treatment they did an extra one in the middle just under my bikini line, hope this helps xx

Hi Abigail, thank you for replying to me, your answer makes sense, I’d not thought about it that way ( fact they may need to Make new incisions based on looking for something different).

Fortunately for me, they didn’t go through my belly button when I had my appendix out it was just above. I’ve heard it’s quite a tricky incision to have through the belly button in terms of repairing and healing itself. :/

thank you, you did help! Xx

I’ve not heard that but for me it has healed so well both times. I am now 2 weeks post op and it’s healing really well you can’t even see part of the scar anymore and you can see two stitches coming out of the skin a little - they stitched me from the inside this time whereas the first time it was from the outside and it took maybe 3 weeks but I had glue over the stitches that time as well which I think delayed healing. I would say my belly button is the one that’s healed the best and before most recent lap the scar just looked like another crease in my belly button. Not sure what this one will look like when fully healed yet but I would say you’ve got nothing to worry about xx

Aww thank you!!

Did your op go to plan for you? X

No problem! Yes kind of. They weren’t expecting to see endo, just take biopsies and examine them for microscopic endometriosis but whilst in they found some and removed what they saw which is a bonus. Unfortunately during the lap they tore my womb so at the moment it’s hard to tell if/how much relief I will have got from the lap and we won’t know until I’m fully healed but it’s early days

Have you got a date for yours? xx

in reply to Abigail16

Ok, so it was more a diagnostic laparoscopy?

Sorry to hear about the tear, I remember how much pain I was in whilst recovering the first time around without any complications so I can only imagine the added uncomfortable-ness. Take it easy. You don’t realise how much you use your stomach muscles until you can’t do you??

I don’t have a date yet no, I have another consultant appointment on 19th March, as she’s got to assess the bilateral cysts they’ve found on my ovaries first to see if it’ll be a straight forward laparoscopy to remove them or whether it will just be a diagnostic laparoscopy, as I have unexplained pain but not all of the time. I just want some answers but I’m headed in the right direction now. Xx

Hi, I’ve had two and they used the same incision sites. In fact only my belly button one was clearly visible, the other two had healed over completely. After the second the scar looked no different once it had healed. It was altogether easier second time around.

That’s a very reassuring post Fabbird, thank you.. gives me a little more hope xx
