When did you feel able to return to your normal day routines after a lap ?

Hey everyone I had my lap last Wednesday and they removed quite a lot of endo , I am starting to feel better each day but yesterday I had to go to the shop because no one was home and I woke up with an eye infection ! I literally was out for about 10 mins stepping outside was the strangest thing but also I couldn’t walk properly and I really struggled like when i got back home I was so tired and in pain . I’m meant to be going back to work next week but I’m just not sure how I’m going to because I’m a nanny and I look after 2 children under the age of 5 so it’s very full on . How long did it take anyone to be able too do normal things again and feel ok afterwards ? My jobs just rubbish if i don’t work I don’t get paid and of course I have rent and tons of bills to pay . Please feel free to comment ! Thanks :)

Hi sophiii,

I also had my lap last Wednesday, they take out cyst and some endo and taken care of the adhesion.

And I also have problem with my eyes, it's red and watery since last Thursday. They gave me an eye-drop medicine, and it is better now.

What I've read is the recovery takes 7-14 days. But it is different for everyone.

Hope you get well soon 😊

It's completely different for everyone. You just need to assess yourself. Take it step by step and see how you get on x

U shouldn’t be lifting anything for 6 wks, it will possibly take you longer but you need to listen to your body and rest x

Hey, you're doing well for a week after lap. Just take it easy, it can take a while to recover; it'll take a lot out of you mentally even if physically you're getting better. Listen to your body, it'll tell you when it's ready to go back to normal stuff xx

I found it took me a good 4 weeks to feel able to do stuff about 100% but even then it took a little longer to not feel so exhausted.

If you're not sure you'll be able to cope you can go back to your GP or specialist just before your sick note ends to ask for an extension, explain your job and how you feel. They may extend it by two weeks. If they say a week and self certify (ie call in work each day) don't accept that as it's your recovery post op so it needs to be an "extension" of your current sick note with the same reason / explanation. You are legally entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) which the government pays, it'll be lower than your work pay if work doesn't pay when you're off. Check out the government website

gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay

It may be worth contacting your HR to check how your system works to put your mind at ease.

Thankyou so much for your response it was very helpful and yes your right even if I feel better on the outside the inside defo isn’t better it’s just so stressful because I’m a nanny and they don’t want to pay me sick pay and I’m meant to return to work next week and I just don’t know how I’m meant to work for 12 hours when I can’t even do anything for more then 5 mins at the mo ! but I think there’s a number I can call on that link you sent me ! Thanks for your help :)

Yeah take your time, I know it's stressful with work etc.

There's more info in the link - eligibility, then there's how to claim at the bottom, and on that page there's a what to do and info including a phone number for if you're not happy with your works decision. The conditions to receive SSP are:

•be classed as an employee and have done some work for your employer

•have been ill for at least 4 days in a row (including non-working days)

•earn an average of at least £118 per week

•tell your employer you’re sick before their deadline - or within 7 days if they do not have one

It's hard enough trying to heal from the op, I think the stresses from work don't help so it's good to know where you stand. It's difficult when work doesn't help or you feel like they don't care.

Let us know what happens xx
