I’m bleeding from the back when I go the toilet. Not just spots enough to change the water colour.

Any advice? Should I be worried?

Hi Nikki.

Sorry you’re dealing with this.

It’s my understanding that very bright red blood, which this is, hasn’t travelled that far. Do you have hemorrhoids that you know of? If you don’t think so or unsure it could be that you have some internally and going to the toilet has caused the bleeding. I’d recommend you going to your GP asap for them to check. Show them this picture when you do go so they are aware of just how much blood there was.

Just FYI - Be prepared for them to do an examination. Hope this helps x

Hmm possibly. The only thing I know I’ve got/had is endo on the bowel. It’s knocking me sick as I’m anemic too

Hey, I’d say to give 111 a call as soon as just to make sure it isn’t anything too bad. They’ll be able to advise you best. Hope all goes well x

Get to a bowel specialist I had to have my sigmoid colon removed 15 years ago due to endometriosis I had developed diverticulitis a disease normally only found in the elderly I was only 30

Since I have had 15 laparoscopic surgeries and a hysterectomy!

I had this for several months, just around my periods, and my endo specialist indicated that it meant my stage 5 endo was causing problems with my bowel. I have since had a laperoscopy surgery and am now waiting on a second surgery for endo excision and they will sort out or remove the section of bowel thats been affected. I would definitely see your gynae or a specialist if possible, not to worry you but I can say from experience that it can be an indicator that the endo is messing with other things.

I had also had a colonoscopy to check the interior of the bowel and that was clear - so it may be a more superficial problem that a colonoscopy could diagnose.

Good luck xx

Hay, it's always scary when you see that amount of blood, especially when from an area it shouldn't be seen. It's bright red blood (fresh blood) which normally or is most commonly due to a small tear, hemoroids etc.. Deep blood from the colon would often be darker, (I'm not expert or professional just from my own personal experience I'm talking) it's always wise to get checked by a GP when you pass blood in your stools, just to be on the safe side. Try not to worry, I know that's easier said than done but still try xx

Looks like internal haemmoroids. I get similar. I’ve had it for quite a few years but mine have started to bleed when I haven’t even been to the loo so I’m going to get them banded soon. Speak to your GP you may have to go back a few times before they will offer treatment.

Hi Nikki,

I started suffering with this a few years ago before I was ever diagnosed with endometriosis. It looks very similar to my problem which was wrongly diagnosed as IBS, then mild proctitis for a long time. During my latest colonoscopy, they discovered I have moderate ulcerative colitis.

Please make sure you get this checked by your doctor, especially if you suffer from diarrhea or constipation.

Wishing you well.

Thanks everybody I mentioned it at a hospital appointment today although she didn’t really seem to care. Hopefully nothing serious, I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks for all your comments and help

Just to say, don’t let them just dismiss it. I started getting this a couple of months before my first laparoscopy and when I spoke to the gynae that would be operating he wasn’t that bothered. When I finally had surgery he found endo on the bowel (surprise, surprise!) and now i have had to battle for another year to try to get MORE surgery with a consultant qualified to deal with the bowel all the while dealing with painful bowels, constipation and so much blood with my stools... With hindsight it would have been better to have it all addressed in that first surgery and I should have pushed the gynae harder on it.

Im sorry that you are dealing with all of this. Please contact your doctor asap so that he/she can determine the source while it is active. I am not a doctor but, red blood means that the condition is usually in the lowest portion of the GI system. If it were higher up in the GI system, the blood would be dark (like coffee beans). You could have hemorides. Hemorides can bleed quite a bit, be internal or external and terrify you if you have never experienced it. Please call your doctor today so that he/she can make a quick diagnosis and do the necessary treatment.
