Can your first laparoscopy not find the endometriosis

Hi everyone.

Looking for some advice or someone who has been in the same situation. I have had a chronic problem for 12/13/14 years. I have gynae problems gastro problems and colorectal problems. So after years of being tested for things they thought it was a high possibility endometriosis l was the main cause of all my problems.

I had a laparoscopy last year in April by a general gynaecologist...

Since then my doctor and new consultant think it could still be endometriosis and that it was not detected the first time round.

Anyone else been through this?

Yes this was me I had a laparoscopy by a general gynae and they did not find my endo 6 years later it was seen when I got my appendix out and the gynae then said the first doctor must have missed it as it would have definitely been there. I think with endo your better to see a specialist x

I have now realised that a general gynae was not the best route to go down.

Although I’m still under question I’m worried that they won’t do another lap and I’m just getting worse every month

Ask you GP to be referred to a specialist. Another laparoscopy shouldnt be off the table and when they do give you another its definitely better to be someone who specialises in endo x

I am seeing a new surgeon Wednesday who I believe is a specialist? He is accredited in the BSGE website, so does this mean he specialises in endometriosis ?

I really hope it’s jot on the table, but I’m so worried that I’m going to have to beg for the surgery x

Are you on any type of hormone to try and stop symptoms?

I was put on POP at one point, but they made me terribly sick daily so O was just told to stop doing them. But I haven’t been given anything further to try no x

POP worked wonders for me I got zero symptoms bar a few bowel spasms that had me on the floor. Might be worth asking for another type of hormone to try and control the symptoms? x

Thank you I appreciate your reply.

I am currently trying research herbal remedies that could help, and I’m happy to try anything.

I am determined to get a true diagnosis though because within my job it will go along way to show I’m not ‘making it all up ‘

My first lap 2 years ago showed nothing other than blocked tubes I have lived with horrendous pain for 20 years and fobbed off more times than I can remember. I had another lap 3 weeks ago to have my tubes out thinking it may help the pain and was supposed to be a quick 30 minute op I awoke and asked the nurse if the clock was wrong because it was over 4 hours later. They found scar tissue old and new both sides and lost of adhesions they found patches of endo and my right ovary was Fused to another organ . This is what caused my tubes to be blocked I am 37 I have a 20 year old son and couldn't understand why I never got pregnant again. Endometriosis was the reason it took nearly 20 years to diagnose never showed up on scans or internals and I've had 100s over the years or my previous op. Strange but the more I read the more I realize it's pretty common to be missed (endometriosis can hide) or fobbed off knowing what I know now I would skip gyno doctor and go to an endo specialist
