Post laparoscopy infection..

Hi,

I recently had my first laparoscopy (first surgery!) Which diagnosed endometriosis, 3 days ago. As soon as I woke up I had a fever of 38C which has remained with me. I went to my GP to remove incision dressings (couldn't do it myself!) And I've got an infection on my belly button incision. I'm taking paracetamol, naproxen and flucloxacillin for the infection but my high temperature is still with me, doesn't even fluctuate throughout the day with medication. My other incisions are healing great but this one hurts so much, I can't even lay down flat! It pulls and stings and I'm having to walk like a hunchback to prevent straightening my back and causing pain!

Has anyone else suffered this way? When should I expect the infection/fever to get better and the pain?

Best wishes!

Gwen

Hi I had an infection after my surgery and I was put on two different types of strong antibiotics I felt awful for about a week but it finally cleared up. I was the same as you I couldn't stand up straight and was walking around hunch backed. The nurse advised me that after I had a shower I should leave the belly button get wet as normal and then dry my belly button on a low heat with the hairdryer. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm glad you're feeling better! Luckily I think it's cleared it up, feeling way better this week. Not allowed to shower for another week though (feeling a bit smelly!!) Xx

My bellybutton incision got infected after surgery as well. I tore the stitches open stretching though 🤦🏼‍♀️. Was on flucloxacillin for about 2 weeks but then the incision opened again and there was loads of pus underneath. At this point they swabbed it and was given doxycycline which cleared it. Whatever bug it grew was one which doxycycline treated. I’d go back to your GP if you’re not feeling a little improvement after being on antibiotics for a few days xx

Thanks so much for your reply - oh god it seems like you've been through a really rough time! I hope you're better now. I'm feeling way better after being prescribed flucloxacillin. It still hurts (feeling a bit tugged every now and then) and feels a bit bruised but the infection has cleared according to my doc and I feel much more able to do things! The only thing I have now is a really fast heart rate (for me) it's around 92-97bpm at rest! Xx
