I had my lap carried out a week ago today. It was only diagnostic but they have found stage 2 endometriosis so want to do a second lap In about a month to carry out excision.
I’ve generally had a fairly good healing process but had pain this morning when passing urine, lower abdominal pain and generally feeling faint and hot. I managed to get straight in with a nurse at my GP who tested my urine and I have a water infection. She’s prescribed antibiotics and is testing my sample to make sure there is nothing else going on. I’ve never had a water infection before.
Has anyone else had this following a diagnostic lap only? It’s making me concerned about what will happen when I have my bigger lap where they will remove things.
Thanks for reading

I had my 6th lap 4 weeks ago and first week went well and then I got a water infection too which, as you will know, is pretty horrible. Speaking to my consultant today he said that unfortunately for this type of surgery they can be quite common.
Thank you. Wow - 6th lap - you are a warrior! It’s just thrown me a bit to be honest as generally other than bloatedness and soreness around the stitches I haven’t had any pain following the op. Now it’s started me stressing out. I suppose you never know how your body is going to react to things. Hope your recovery is going well xx
Hiya, I had the same after my laparoscopy, it’s the most horrible feeling. Most likely you’ve got it because they insert a catheter during surgery to insure your bladder remains empty, and unfortunately catheter can cause urine infections really quick. A couple of days on the antibiotics and you should start to feel a bit better again x
Thank you. It’s reassuring that it’s a fairly common thing. I didn’t realise they inserted a catheter during a laparoscopy. I had a hysteroscopy done at the same time too. X
They’ve given me Nitrofurantoin but only 6 tablets so 3 days worth. I’m glad it surfaced before the Easter break so I could get it sorted (hopefully). I’ve just moved back to England from Wales (where everyone gets free prescriptions) so being charged £9 for 6 tablets was a shock! Ha ha! Xx
Hi Catness. Just checking how you’re doing? Hopefully your UTI has cleared up? Bizarrely when I went to get my results of the full sample test this week they told me they didn’t detect a UTI in the end. But the basic test they did on the day detected it! In any case the antibiotics worked so it must have been one! Also found out from the consultant yesterday that they put a catheter in and took it out before I woke up from anaesthetic so I’m suspecting that’s what’s caused it.
How lovely to hear from you! I'm so pleased to hear you're on the mend. Unfortunately I don't have such positive news - I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis years ago and it seems that even though it has been in remission for years the UTI has brought it all back with a vengeance. Life has been pretty miserable as it basically involves all the symptoms of cystitis with very little treatment options that aren't very invasive. I am currently on the IC/ endo diet and am basically eating like a rabbit currently as everything seems to put me into flare and have lost a stone in weight (the only positive I suppose!). I'm also not sleeping properly due to my bladder and though the GP gave me some sleeping pills I am not finding they help so much.
I am hoping that things will settle down in the coming weeks. Sending you healing hugs and my best wishes xxxx
Yup! Had my lap two weeks ago, went to the doctors a week later, no sample but he facebooked me antibiotics for a urine infection. They didn't seem to do anything and symptoms got worse so I had an emergency appointment on Tuesday. He felt my stomach and said it was very tender and very firm but not enough to rush me to a surgeon straight away(what's that supposed to mean?!) but I'm still having lower back pains and stabbing pains in my tummy? Any advice? X
