Too much progesterone

So usually a few days before my period, I can tell my progesterone increases as I start feeling like I did on cerazette - blushing, mouth ulcers, anxious, greasy hair, really hungry and emotional. Last month it was pretty horrific and carried on right through my period and now on day 5 I'm still experiencing all these things. Not on any birth control atm, is it possible my body is just producing more progesterone for some reason? Also not pregnant unless I've somehow been pregnant and had a period too!

Hi Kate, I get symptoms similar to this ever month but I had no idea it could be due to an increase in progesterone! You’ve given me something to google today, thank you!

You're very welcome haha! I know progesterone naturally increases just before a period but mine has lasted forever x

I have the same symptoms and did a couple of private hormone tests which showed high progesterone before my period - I didn't realise some of the symptoms were related to it though (such as mouth ulcers). I also did a couple of adrenal gland tests which showed I had slightly high cortisol and I believe the two are related?

Is cortisol stress or is that progesterone? I'm very stressed, always have been, and wonder if that's been why??

Hi Kate, yes cortisol is a stress hormone which is part of the adrenal glands. I'd advise to get your adrenals tested and recommend using Medichecks saliva test. There are supplements you can take to support the adrenals but you need to know if you have low or high cortisol before you start. Jo x
