Hiya,
I changed GP recently and last week rang to get my repeat prescriptions of stemetil and mefanamic acid which I take to treat some of my symptoms when they are bad. I also have just run out of co-codomal which I was given since my pain had got so bad and I'm on waiting waiting waiting lists. I don't really like taking meds (my poor liver and stomach!) but have to some days to function. Anyway, the GP surgery rang me because they don't want to give me mefanamic acid and called me in for a review...
Anyone got any advice on this before I face the GP? I get that taking meds long term is not ideal but that seems to be the only option at the moment. My previous GP gave me the repeat prescriptions and was more concerned about the stemetil (which I only take if I really have to for nausea) long term.
I'm reaching out as it's just the usual confusion and worry and I get anxious seeing Doctors now as I have had such bad, dismissive care over the years. I hate slagging the NHS, and they saved my life in emergency gynae before now, but in general the system provides horsesh*t treatment for this, and women's health conditions generally.
Has anyone else had mefanamic acid and then GP's switched them to something else? I had a Nexplanon fitted in January (to try and reduce symptoms) and my periods stopped until this month... I have a cyst at the moment too, and when I bled the pain on my RHS (where the cyst is) is was absolute agony - into my back and leg and I could hardly walk for two days. Mefanamic acid seems to help with pain around bleeding. The only things that work better are codeine based and they're surely worse on the system long term (not to mention addictive).
While I'm here I thought I'd ask - has anyone moved area while in the process of getting surgery and treatment etc? I'm going to be moving from a large city to somewhere very rural in November. I'm scared I will fall out of the system (I'm waiting on a lap) - will my referral get transferred or will I need to travel back? I can't see the surgery happening before November even though my life is now completely controlled by my symptoms, things are a mess!!!!
Thanks! x
