Hello! Just received my confirmation of lapscopy for 30/5- super nervous as it’s my first ever surgery! Any tips or advice on what to expect?

Laparoscopy date end of may
Just take time to rest up after, get organised before. Buy in some peppermint tea for gas pain and prune juice for keeping everything moving along! Good luck x
Thanks hun! I’ve also just started a new job so hoping I won’t be off my feet for too long
I had my first lap/surgery just yesterday!
I got to the hospital and got settled. I met with a nurse who took my blood pressure and did a pregnancy test (standard procedure!). I then also met with my consultant/surgeon who asked me if I had any questions, then the anesthesiologist (my biggest worry due to phobia of needles!). I was very scared but the staff deal with this daily and did everything they could to settle my nerves. The last thing I remember was being given something to calm my nerves through the canulla, then I woke up in the recovery ward! A nurse was sat waiting with water as your throat will likely be quite sore (feels very very dry). I also let her know my stomach was hurting and she gave me a heated wrap to help. During this time my consultant came around and told me how the surgery went but she literally said one sentence to me. About 20 minutes later I was wheeled to my room again where I carried on recovering.
I had previously reached out to some people on here who had mentioned that after their lap they experienced some period-like bleeding which can be expected. I luckily didn't have anything too major! Before you are allowed to be discharged, you'll need to demonstrate that you can eat, drink, and can go for a wee. They gave me some strong painkillers to take home (thankfully haven't needed them yet) and they also gave me something to help with nausea (this was my primary issue!). They also gave me some fresh dressings for my wounds as the ones they applied aren't waterproof.
Make sure you pack some comfy loose trousers and clothes to travel back in and pack a pillow for the car journey home to place over your stomach! I agree with the peppermint tea (not sire if it's helping but it tastes nice) and also something to help get your bowels moving if you're in any pain with that. I also prepped some soups beforehand which I could reheat. Quite easy when you just want some simple food quickly!
If you have any questions during the day, there is always staff on hand to answer your questions. No question is too silly no matter what you think and it's their job to answer them!
Feel free to drop me a message if you need and I hope everything goes well. All the best! ❤
Take it easy afterwards. Expect a sore throat, and pain in your neck/shoulders. Make sure they give you painkillers afterwards and if they plan to do simple treatment whilst you’re under general, make you you insist you get local anaesthetic too! Try not to worry, I truly hope all goes well and you get a diagnosis and treatment that cures your symptoms! Take care x
They’re doing a hysteroscopy and fitting a coil too, I didn’t know I could have local whilst under general! Will definitely request it. Silly question but do you really have to remove your acrylic nails? I keep mine quite short
I requested it the second time as my first experience of a laparoscopy was horrific and I woke up hearing the nurses saying they’d forgot to give me local for my cervical biopsy, so my second time I was petrified and I asked to have local and explained that at my first operation they forgot to give me it. Yeah, I don’t think you’re even allowed normal nail polish, I think it’s more to do with the little clip monitor the put on your finger, it must affect it somehow🙈
