Private Gynaecology

Hi all.

I'm just wondering if anybody can give me any advice.

I've had Endo symptoms for years, was my GP who suggested it might be endo. I had a Laparoscopy on the 22nd of March. Nothing found. The consultant has been crap tbh, no word on follow up appointment or anything. I'm debating about going to see a private gynaecologist to see if they'll be any better. I'm considering Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow. Does anyone have any advice regarding this? I can't keep going on like this.

Hi Rhiannon

I know how you feel I had a lap done in 2015 on nhs and they didn’t find anything I was gutted to say the least and just got told I had heavy irregular periods.

I’m still suffering years later and enough is enough I’ve gone private now I’m in Sheffield and I’ve seen a endo specialist and I saw him a few weeks ago he said he thinks I could have endo and adeno and cysts. My first appointment with him he was great actually listened to me and booked me in for mri scan and lap to be done 11th april. Would of been sooner but he’s on holiday.

I’m in Sheffield by the way so I can’t comment on hospitals near you but my experience with the nhs gyne was shocking so worth going private or looking to speak with your gp and see if you can be referred to an endo specialist through nhs depends how you are with waiting times etc I couldn’t wait any longer as the pains that bad.

Any questions feel free to ask hope you get sorted soon x

Thank you. 😊 Really pleased to hear you've had a much better experience going private, the only thing with me is cost. I can pay for initial consultation but after that I can't afford the cost of scabs etc. I'm really just looking to get a second opinion- and I know the private gynae could re refer me back to the NHS if he thinks it's needed.

No problem and yes I am to hopefully he finds out what’s going on this time. Well I would speak to your gp about it all and then even if you just have a consultation they can see you on nhs I’m sure just do some reading on who you want to see etc.

Hope you get sorted x

I went private due to NHS waiting times and had my laparoscopy, it’s great as you get to pick your consultant as well as consultation appointment date & surgery date. Amazing what money does!

I don't have much money. I'm literally just going and paying for a private consultation for a second opinion on some answers about wtf is wrong with my body. It is not normal to have all these symptoms, and the one that's getting to me most is the painful sex and bleeding afterwards, it is debilitating sometimes, my partner is very understanding but we've been together 7 years and it's really affecting me. Once I've had the private consultation they might refer me back to NHS. X

Private is definitely worth it! I haven’t ever been treated by the NHS but I can say having private healthcare has literally saved me!

Hi all.

My private appointment went great tonight. I now just need to try and get the NHS to see the private gynaecologists point of view. This is what he said. He suggests I have a repeat Laparoscopy, as all my symptoms point to endo as well as my clinical history. He says my Laparoscopy wasn't carried out by a specialist and it can be so easily missed. He suggests I come off the Depo, and ask for an MRI as it can sometimes detect deep infiltrating endo. Even if it doesn't though, he thinks I still need a repeat Laparoscopy. He can understand why I'm so fed up and frustrated because this has been going on for years but he says I have to keep pushing and fighting for answers. Xx
