Gynaecology Appointments

After being seen by my GP, having numerous scans and being fast tracked, I am now seeing a consultant gynecologist tomorrow. Does anyone have any advice, tips etc, or know what to expect? I have heard lot's of different stories from people having positive experiences but also some having not so great experiences and being left in the dark about a diagnosis and their next steps! Any advice is very welcome! I'm very nervous! Thank you!

I don’t want to sound negative but don’t go in there expecting answers straight away. I saw 7 gynaes and a private one before I got my lap and I’m still having issues with my current gynae now and my endo has come back.

They will just ask you questions about your symptoms, maybe do a pelvic exam (they are not the best). It’s best to write down any questions you may have so you don’t forget. They may suggest trying hormone treatment first. Think I tried about 6 before they finally let me have a lap.

Hopefully you get a nice gynae. Do you know if they are an endo specialist? xx

Thank you for being so honest! I saw a gynaecologist today and wasn’t really expecting much. I have cysts on my ovaries and blocked Fallopian tube and they first said they would just leave me on pain meds! She then talked to me about options I could have and they have changed my contraception and I now have to wait for a scan in 12 weeks. They did however say that I could have endometriosis even though a doctor earlier in my journey ruled it out! Looking at blogs on here has helped me to see what it could actually be. Could I just ask your time frame from seeing gynaecologist to lap? Thanks x

I started trying to get answers in 2017 and had my lap July 2018. After I saw a private consultant in November 2017, I was waiting 8 months. That really got things moving as other gynaes were just messing around and didn’t believe me because I was only 18 xx

Thank you! Yeah I’ve heard similar answers elsewhere 😕 I have no idea if she is a specialist, she’s new to my hospital too so I have no idea where her experience is.

I’ve got my questions written down so hopefully I’m prepared and will get the answers I want xx

Good luck with it. I had to push quite hard today to hear all the options so just be prepared to ask questions to get what you want xx
