Waiting times for surgery?

We started fertility treatment this year and I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in February, I am currently awaiting a date for key hole surgery to remove a cyst that is about 9cm x 5cm. I had my pre op assessment two weeks ago, can anyone tell me how long they waited to have surgery after their pre op?

The nurse at the pre op said there was a preliminary date of 13/04/19 but I haven't heard anything.

Hi Robynco!

Where is your surgery and what kind of surgery will you get?

With a large cyst like yours, make sure they excise it, not just empty it’s content. That is pretty important.

I went for surgery abroad (I live in the Netherlands) and went for a specialis from Nancy’s nook list. Best decision ever and the wayting period was a lot shorter (2-3 weeks).

I'm having the surgery in Leeds st James. As far as I know it's key hole to remove the cyst and any other problems it might have caused as we are having fertility treatment. We go on holiday in May so I don't mind if the wait is longer so it's after that.

The length between the pre-op appointment and the op completely varies from procedure to procedure and hospital to hospital. If you have been given a preliminary date, plan on it being that date.

At my nearest hospital they would not have finalised the theatre list for April until the last week or even the last day of March. And they send out the letters when the schedule is finalised.

A 2 month wait is pretty good. I had a cyst of that size and waited 5 months on the operating list, and it was a full 10 months after it was found.

Hi Robyn,

As the others have said, it can vary from hospital to hospital. It's worth calling the booking office to check with them if you're not sure - even if they can't confirm your exact date, they can give you an idea of how long the wait is.

Good luck with everything.

Hi :) I have my pre op on 1st April and they have booked me in for surgery already on 9th April. I have been waiting since October and called last week to chase and they booked me in for everything there and then. So it may be worth your while to call them and ask if the op date is set and if not can they book it.

Good luck and take care

Thanks for your reply, I called yesterday but they told me because I don't know who the consultant is they won't know who to put me through to. Also I said in my post that the preliminary date is the 13th and its actually the 3rd, seen as thats a week today and I've still not got a letter then it must not be happening then.

Good luck with yours though.
