At wits end, pain, irregular bleeding but normal ultrasounds

Hello,I'm hoping someone out there has experienced something similar and give me hope I'm not just a hypochondriac.

I've been on the progesterone only pill for the last 12 years. I would only bleed very lightly once per year. However at Christmas I suddenly started bleeding heavily, this lasted for about 2 weeks. Then I developed right sided pelvic pain. I then bled again and once stopped the pain would come back. I have noticed when bleeding if I open my bowels the bleeding gets worse for a while afterwards. This cycle has been going on since Christmas (almost 4 months now). I went to my GP who referred me for a pelvic and internal ultrasound. The pain got worse and worse, I was taking time off work and was rocking back and forth in pain. The GP got me seen by the gyne hot clinic who did a set of cursory ultrasound scans and said there was nothing wrong. I then used my works private medical insurance and got seen privately. The DR suggested another set of detailed ultrasounds, which I've had today. They are all clear. I just don't know what to do. I'm in pain, really bad pain at times.l, where dihydrocodine and naproxen don't help, or I'm having irregular bleeding. I see the consultant again on the 9th May but I'm worried as my scans were normal he will just say there is nothing wrong. I just want to know what this is, work out how to get rid of the awful pain and get treated.

Sorry for the long post.

Hello BunnyPenguin,

I’m really sorry you’re going through this.

You’re absolutely not a hypochondriac — you’re listening to your body and doing the right thing by seeking help.

The symptoms you've expressed should be taken seriously, even if scans are clear.

It’s good you have a follow-up soon. Keep speaking up and tracking your symptoms — you deserve answers and relief.

And remember, the community is here for you anytime you need support

All the best!

Whether you have clear scans or not, whether you have endometriosis or not, you are in a lot of pain so something is wrong. Please don't give up on yourself, keep advocating until they find out what the cause is it the pain goes away. It could well still be endo as ultrasounds don't always pick it up, MRIs either. I took my partner with me to appointments and sadly I think they took my pain more seriously because my partner was nodding along and saying he'd seen me in pain. Is there anyone you can take?

Hello,

Sorry your going through all this.

At your next appointment maybe try getting them to talk through with you what it could be and if they say they think you don't have any of those conditions then ask them to make note of that on your medical records with reference to your crippling pain and symptoms. Maybe even ask for a second opinion. There are lots of people on here who mention doing things like this and it helps to have it documented.

Also it might be worth considering telling them that a loved one is concerned. I honestly wasn't able to get much help other than contraception and pain medication occasionally until my dad got concerned. I told the doctor this and suddenly I was sent for ultrasound (all clear) and then further investigation.

I had to keep chasing them up but it got me my endo diagnosis.

Good luck and don't give up, you deserve help and answers.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'll continue to advocate for myself and will take my partner to my next appointment. Hopefully they will find out what it is soon as I can't keep being in pain.
