I have been requested to have a pelvic MRI after having an Ultrasound. Is this better than a laprascopy?
Which is better?: I have been requested to... - Endometriosis UK
Which is better?
I was recommended for a pelvic MRI to assess the severity of my endo before being referred for surgery but I asked for a second opinion and that consultant said he had no idea why it was recommended and it made more sense to just have the surgery as we knew I had cysts from the ultrasound (and most likely lesions) that needed removing sooner rather than later as I am 35 and have been trying to conceive for over a year. He also said that the MRI wasn't guaranteed to show anything anyway. The second consultant seemed far more knowledgeable and actually answered all my questions, in contrast to the first consultant who quite clearly just wanted to get me out of his office as quickly as possible and skirted around every question I asked, so I went with the second consultants recommendation and had the surgery. Everyone's situation is different so I'm not saying you shouldn't have the MRI but if you're unsure, ask questions and if you're not getting answers I'd suggest asking to see someone else. Good luck!
Hi Purple500, i’m in the same boat - i’ve been referred for an MRI before having a diagnostic lap. MRI does not always show up endo that is for sure.. But it is less invasive than having a lap so I feel like it’s definitely worth getting the MRI scan before deciding on a more serious procedure, i.e. lap..
I have heard stories on here of people getting an Endo diagnosis from their MRI results but i presume it depends on how bad it is and where it is etc x
Also just read the comment above. I see her point if your ultrasound showed anything on it? I had two ultrasounds 8 months apart and both have come back clear x
hi. Hope you're ok. I've had a few ultrasounds, Ct and MRI scan and nothing prepared them for what they found on my operation day. It was a bsge specialist who said I was the reason scans still aren't reliable, id waited 9 months for surgery but should have been a priority. They are a useful tool but they don't show everything. Hope you get some help. Xx
Thanks, getting fed up with the pain, especially back pain., messes up everyday living....x
hi. Are you on medication? You might find it helpful to see the pain team, they were brilliant with me and it meant I could have some fairly good days before my surgery. Xx
Hi, I have tried to avoid taking any over the counter meds and now take plenty of veg cabbage etc and some fruit, plus a fair amount of oily fish, salmon and mackrel, but unfortunately wheat based products seem to make my condition worse, especially the bloat, the clots and polyps seem to have calmed down a bit, the gyno told me, he had removed several fibroids, however I do get severe pelvic pain now and again.
My daughter hasn’t had lap but waiting for MRi after ultrasound was clear... her MRI is because it’s deep infiltration endo and rectovaginal. Private diagnosis by endo gynaecologist
