It's been a while since I posted..I was 4 weeks post lap on Tuesday just gone and am yet to have a period! I was told by my consultant to expect at least 3 periods as it would take a while for my body to get used to the coil..So I've stocked up and everything i would need and nothing!
Still getting strong pains all day everyday..Having to use deep heat under heat pads (two on front, two on lower back) and Co-codemol to help with the pain! Is this normal after having Mirena Coil fitted to help with Endo (they found covering bother ovaries and womb) Helppp! I'm so confused!
Thanx in advance x

the Mirena coil works to prevent your ovaries producing eggs by controlling the amount of oestrogen the body produces, it also works to keep the lining of the uterus thin, so implantation wont occur. As there's no egg produced then technically you don't have periods on it - this is the same for any contraception. A side effect is breakthrough bleeding which some women have as random spotting through to what feels like period bleeds for a few days a month not in line with your cycle. For the first few months sometimes the body runs on auto; it still sheds the lining, but it may be more frequently or less frequently. It depends on each women. Some women can still have "cycles" as the body has it's own hormones that don't always respond or are controlled by the mirena coil. For some it can all work fine right away, some have bleeding for a whole month, some have symptoms for up to about 9 months - the time docs often say it takes to settle.
It's best to look up / read the side effects - the NHS website is good for this. Just search / google "mirena coil side effects nhs" the first website that comes up is IUDs which is it one of those; it's a hormonal iud, the normal one is a copper coil (this just works on preventing implantation and isn't used for endo).
