Lap in 2 weeks

Hi all. I have my laparoscopy booked for 30th November. I'm a bit nervous to say the least. Sounds bonkers but one of my biggest worries is that they won't find any endo - because then I'm back at square one with no clue why I feel so bad.

Anyway, obviously I'll ask my gynae when I go in but can anyone give me any idea how long it'll be after my lap before I can a) run and b) swim again?

Hey!

I totally understand where you’re coming from, I had my first laparoscopy in January and felt exactly the same. You want there to be an explanation for all the pain and to know you’re not just imagining it!

In my case I was diagnosed and had excision surgery at the same time and I’m sure you probably find something similar in your case.

I was quite sore for weeks after (more sore than I thought I was going to be!). Take it easy after and they say you don’t heal internally for a good few months after so I would say at least 4/6 weeks (depending how you heal/ feel) until you go back to running etc.

Take care and all the best for your surgery!

P.s - Peppermint tea for wind pain is a life saver!

Hey, good luck and honestly the surgery is nothing to worry about and that’s coming from a person with a fear of hospitals haha. I was scared nothing would be found as I’d look stupid etc but they found a bit of endo and cyst which I think has come back already 🙄

I starting going back to the gym 2 weeks after my lap but only did very slow walking on the treadmill. Took me weeks until I could run as the stitches in my bellybutton would hurt and twist etc. I think swimming would be a while as pool are full of germs etc but just ask your surgeon to make sure xxx

I feel exactly the same. My surgery is 12th Dec and I’m scared they’ll find nothing and I’ll still have no idea why I have all this pain. My ultrasound only showed a 3cm fibroid but no endo cysts but I’ve been told you can’t tell definitively without a laparoscopy.

Anyway, in answer to your question I was told about 4 to 6 weeks recovery time before I would feel fully back to normal.

Thanks, I'm glad it's not just me! I've really been second guessing myself and doubting my own experience of my pain. I try really hard to stay active and do some form of exercise daily, especially while my pain is at its worst. While it doesn't actually reduce my pain the endorphin rush means that I cope with it far better. But then I start asking myself if I really had endo would I even be able to run etc and does the fact that I can and do mean that I don't actually have it? And then I remind myself that I'm sitting in bed dosed up on tramadol and still in pain and that can't be normal. And then I ask myself if this is actually normal and I just have a really low pain threshold. Urgh, I'm in danger of driving myself mad!!

Hey maybe my story will help out a little 😊

The only endo symptom I had was random pelvic pain. Completely normal pain free periods, no other text book symptom.

I went into my Lap expecting to eliminate endo off the list of possibilities and what do you know? I have it 🙈 actually I was relieved to have an actual name for it so I understand how you feel xx

Good luck with everything, don’t be nervous it’s amazing how clever our bodies are at healing xxx

I’m dosed up on the tramadol too! It’s the only thing that gets me through the day sometimes. I’ve always thought I have a lowish pain threshold but even so I can’t see how anyone can carry on as normal with major cramping etc even with a high threshold!

I think the second guessing is quite normal before surgery. Chances are we do both have endometriosis as we’ve come this far to be listed for surgery. Plus, this really is the only way to know for sure and get treated.

Did you have an ultrasound?

Yes I did. It was clear as expected. We'll both have to wait and see. Good luck with yours.

I felt exactly the same even down to the morning I nearly talked myself out of it. And then w he I woke and lifted up the nightie to see on my two cuts I thought she was going to say there was nothing when actually I have stage 4 and it was so bad she needed a specialist team to operate x

Hey,

I have my lap in less than 2 weeks and I feel exactly the same. I have more concerns about them not finding anything or it coming back than I do of the actual surgery.

I'm trying to practice letting go of the worries (easier said than done) and try be more mindful & in the moment. I was so worried they wouldn't even offer me surgery & wasted so much time worrying about that, I try to apply to same thought to my worries now. They aren't helping me, it's natural to worry about it & that's ok, but I will try & to focus my attention elsewhere.

Let us know how you get on :) . Mines on the 28th Nov arghh!

I had mine done 2 weeks yesterday. I am back to work today. I think as long as the wounds are healed swimming would be fine and maybe fast walking and build up speed to where you feel most comfortable.

Try not to worry, I think living with the symptoms is worse than the operation and depending on how you feel I would give it a month till back to normal (where I'm at now), some days are better than others but you will know if you listen to your body what you feel up to. If it's not endo at least it's progress towards diagnosis. You'll be alright xxx
