Hi there !

I have been prescribed cerezette Following my laparoscopy to treat endo.

What has peoples experiences been on the pill? Does it make you anxious/depressed? Constant bleeding? How long does it take to settle down? And does it actually surpress future endo growth?

Any info would be great!

Much love x x x

I took cerazette for premenstrual tension PMT (not endometriosis) many years ago. It switches off ovulation and thins the endometrium thus reducing the volume of endometrial tissue available. This is what you want, because, according to the retrograde flow theory, endometrial tissue implantation drives endometriosis (therefore cerazette helps prevent progression of endometriosis). The logic is that the less endometrial tissue that is available to the pelvic and abdominal cavity, the less bulky the endometriosis will be.

I had to stop the drug because it caused me to have headaches and feel very down, so I had to stop it after just a few days! I rechallenged myself and, unfortunately, the symptom recurred; so I've not taken it since. Everyone's experience is unique. I hope cerazette helps you and that you can tolerate it.

So for endo it could be a good way of managing it? Just hope I can tolerate it. I’ve heard more negative things than positive things about it unfortunately. Did you find anything else that suits you better ?

Mirena IUS inserted in November seems ok so far once an initial infection was treated after its insertion (was inserted at same time as therapeutic Laparoscopy). Cerazette was for PMS not for Endometriosis and the former preceded the latter by many years so I cannot compare efficacy

I really didn't get on with cerazette, I had a constant headache and found that I'd be fine for about 28 days, and then when I was due to have my period until it actually started about 3 months later, I would have awful pre-period feeling that wouldn't go til either my period started or I stopped taking it to let the period start. I know everyones experiences are different and it works wonders for some people, but I was on it for 9 months and it was pretty awful for me in terms of side effects x

Yeah that was the case for me too haha! I never really got on with any of them I was on but found running the combined together was kinder on my health and mental health than Cerazette but you never know haha x

They never tell you any of this when they prescribe it. If it wasn’t for the fact I need it for a medical purpose I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. How long should I give it until I know if it suits me or not? Or is that a million dollar question ! 😂

I guess it's different for everyone, for me it was a case of how much longer can I physically last on it haha. They wanted to put the Mirena in during surgery but I declined, and as no endorsed was found I came off it, was advised against it repeatedly as they said anything there would grow back but I genuinely couldn't last another day on it. Some people say a year but I think the minimum doctors will let you is 3 months, I've spent 9 months to a year with each one I e taken to give it a good go!

I tried it for a month. I felt really on edge all the time, snappy, moody. It even brought my skin out in tiny spots everywhere but it did eventually settle. I would never go back on it again. Not everyone reacts this way though xx

That’s what I have heard, it seems to make people depressed/anxious. Not ideal!

Did you try anything else that you were more suited to?

Hello , I was put on cerezette because of heavy bleeding and constant stomach ache etc & it really did not suit me ! I bled for 28 days straight on it , I was so emotional , always crying and it didn’t ease any of the symptoms for me . Obviously it can be different for everyone but I ended up coming off it because it was just not working for me xxx

I was on cerazette to help with pain management and to control my periods (I was getting 2 a month) and I was spotting or bleeding all the time and I couldn’t cope with it so I came off of it. Sorry it’s not a positive anecdote! It may work for you though :)

I got switched the other kind of pill and now I’m on one called microgynon which has been great, stopped all the sore and tenderness I was experiencing from the previous pill. It does make my periods shorter which is a plus! If you find you don’t get on with cerazette and they offer you one called rigverdon I’d give that one a miss too. X
