Post laparoscopy/ Codeine withdrawal worries - anyone with any similar experiences?

Hi, I don’t know if anyone else has had a similar experience post laparoscopy.... I had my first laparoscopy 6 weeks ago and was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometriosis. They removed endo tissue from one of my ovaries but said it was too risky to remove the endo from between my uterus and bladder.

I had very slowly started to feel a little better, so have reduced my co-codomal dose but now the pain has increased, I feel really achey, stomach crampy and generally rubbish, and have started feeling very low. I guess I am probably experiencing some withdrawal symptoms having taken fairly strong pain medication continuously for 6 months now but I am also really worried that I’m just left with a lot of endo pain still, from the remaining tissue.

I have been off work for 6 months and am beginning to wonder if I’ll ever feel better and well enough to go back to work.

Everyone on here seems to have recovered in 2-6 weeks even if they are still in a lot of pain during their period, but I am in some level of pain all the time, it’s just worse during my period and when I’m ovulating.

I’m not taking any hormone treatment as my husband and I want to conceive, but I’m not feeling anywhere near well enough to try for one, and haven’t for 6 months.

Sorry this is long and not very positive, I’m just feeling really low and worried and wondered if anyone had similar experiences?

Thank you.

Sounds like withdrawal to me.

Take it easy, have hot baths. You may well be rather depressed. Some antidepressants have pain relieving qualities. Go see your GP and be really honest, choose the doctor you get on best with! Don't worry codeine dependence can be effectively managed and if you have coped with endo, you can cope with this.

Thank you, I think the fact that it’s making me feel this rough is enough to convince me that I should stick with trying to come off it! Thank you xx

Stay with trying to withdraw. Tell your significant other so they can limit your access to the drug.

put each dose off until you HAVE to take it.

I have absolute faith you will do this!

a life addicted is no life. I know!

Sorry your feeling like this :(

Codein really slows down your intestines and you end up getting really blocked up. Which puts more pressure on your endo and surgery scars :( nasty cycle! I had really bad pain and this is what they discovered. Also the Gass from surgery can linger for quite along time to. Get some laxatives (senacot is my go to less Gass more results!) get things moving and drink a lot of water.

Don’t think about babies right now, Get better first concentrate on you!

Thank you, I had never really thought about the fact that the codeine might actually be making me feel worse, as my gynaecologist just kept encouraging me to try a stronger dose, but a consultant (urologist) friend recently told me that he spends a lot of time encouraging patients to come off the codeine and that eventually they actually feel better for it....fingers crossed! Thanks for your advice 🙂 xx

Codeine is great! It turns to morphine in your liver, you fly, you feel GREAT and then you go down oh, do you go down. You go

down. Worse than you can imagine!

Please try and stop now. PLEASE!
